I use FastStone image viewer 7.4.

With that said, I shot RAW and JPG at the same time. I have my camera set to Vivid with extra sharpness for the JPG. I know the settings will have no effect on the RAW file. When I view the photos on my PC using FastStone Image Viewer both the RAW and JPG look exactly the same. The JPG is dull and washed out. When I use Adobe Bridge only the RAW file looks dull and washed out with the JPG Vivid and colorful.

Can someone recommend a viewer which actually shows the RAW and JPG as they really are?

You should state what brand/model camera.

Unlike JPG files, RAW files don't look like anything - the various parameters need to be first adjusted.

I think he was expecting the JPEG to be vivid with extra sharpness.

Canon 80D

The RAW files and JPG files both look exactly them same. I do see a difference when I process the RAW file to a JPG. Once processed the JPG looks nice but when I compare the JPG from the camera to the RAW file, they look the same. The camera does not seem to be processing the JPG with my settings.

But you said that Adobe Bridge does show the difference?

Can you post a jpg to this thread, clicking the "store original" box prior to clicking add attachment? That way we can see the exif.

Solved my problem. It is the viewer. For whatever reason when I view the cr2 file and the jpg file they look exactly alike. I ramped up the in camera jpg settings and the resulting jpg was super colorful and so was the cr2 file. FastStone image Viewer is using the jpg to show both files.

When I use Adobe Bridge the jpg is super colorful and the cr2 file is dull.

Guess I need a new viewer.

Could be your mode selection? Did you change mode settings?
You "ramped it up" from what? Were you using neutral or faithful?
Neutral will create a basically flat in-camera JPEG.

You have a viewer.

You said that Bridge shows the difference, so Bridge is your viewer that works. I don't understand your question since you have a viewer that works.

You don’t specify a platform, but I have been very happy with Lyn as a quick and easy viewer on my Mac: https://www.lynapp.com/

It supports a wide variety of formats, including many RAW formats: https://www.lynapp.com/lyn/formats.html

It’s (in my opinion) worth every penny of the $20 cost. It has a free 15 day free trial.

For viewing my RAW files I use "FastRAW Viewer". It also allows you to see the actual RAW histogram.

The reason is that the raw file contains a preview jpg that is generated by the camera. A simple viewer will just show you the preview, so it will look the same as the jpg.

Just what I thought. Know of any viewer which will show a JPEG and RAW as they really are?

Thanks
