I like these very much. Awe-inspiring.

Glad you like them Katy. Awe-inspired is the best description of how it felt to be there. I almost never encountered other people away from the parking areas. Not once did I pause in taking pictures to wait for a shot.

Kind of understated and awesome at the same time. I get your "magical" and Katy's "awe-inspiring." Beautiful work, Mark.

I am just beginning to revisit these shots to process them in color. Black and white was my focus initially, but as I learn more about processing ( in no small part, from my involvement with UHH) I am learning how to better deal with them. With these dawn images I think I have done the moments pretty fair justice. Thanks for your kind comments Linda.

Beautiful images fergmark - love the soft muted color!

Coming from you yssirk, a very nice complement. Just trying to keep the processing to represent how I saw it.

Beautiful shots Mark. The first one really catches the early light from the Sunrise. Best in Download of course.

Thank you Jan. When the sun comes up, the rocks become vibrant orange and even some red's but I favor these types of shots.

The first is really neat.

Everywhere you go you see rocks that sort of defy any explanation for their formation. Glad you liked it!

Well this is a unique place. Part of the appeal is that you feel like you practically have the place to yourself. Thanks for stopping in

Nice ones, fergmark. Wonder about the round cavities in the rock in the first photo?

John, the quick answer is this. The reason for all the rounded forms, and there are gigantic ones, is that they were magma bubbles on their way to the surface, and in this unique area they solidified before they got there. All kinds of bizarre shapes and probably extrusions frozen in that viscous shape.
