I have been doing photography since 1972. Now that I am retired I can devote a lot more time to it, including work for hire. I have been a Nikon user since 1974 and still use the Hasselblad for critical black and white work.
Welcome to the forum.
(since 1972 here also!)
Welcome. I only joined about 18 months ago.
This forum pointed me in the direction of an advanced Canon point & shoot. Convinced me that the camera you have with you is much more useful than the fancier, heavier, bulky equipment you have left in the closet.
Different strokes for different folks.
I lread many of the articles about fancier equipment. It instructs me, but much of it is beyond my Canon 1G and my needs. And all for free. I can’t understand how.
Thanks to UHH.
Welcome
Welcome to UHH. You find many friends and many knowledgeable people here.
Welcome to UHH. Could you tell us a bit more about yourself: where do you live? What type of photography you enjoy (e.g.landscapes. weddings, street scenes, etc.). I'm sure you'll find the forum interesting and fun.

Here's the "Reader's Digest" version. I am originally from Raleigh, NC but am currently living in Gainesville FL, which is paradise when it comes to nature photography. I have been a part time professional photographer for at least 20 years, but now that I am retired, I am able to devote more time to it. I was a clinical microbiologist for many years.
I enjoy nature, landscape, still life, macro and portraiture but if I had to pick my favorite it would be nature. I am a bit of a throwback, I guess, I shoot in manual about 95% of the time and all of my Nikkors, from 8mm fisheye to 600mm super telephoto, are manual focus. I really regard my D850 and D500 as digital versions of my beloved, and still occasionally used, Nikon F2A I also use a hand held incident/flash meter and a 1º spot meter most of the time. I use them in conjunction with Ansel Adams' Zone system. Ansel was my star pupil, I taught him everything I know :-) I also do still enjoy shooting film, especially with the Hasselblad and T-Max 100 though I will sometimes use it for studio portraiture using Kodak Portra as well. Film has a quality about it that digital really cannot duplicate.
Welcome aboard. Nice to see you also have a good sense of humor! I recently joined myself.

I never got to meet Ansel before he died (and he was mostly unavailable afterwards), but I did have the great pleasure of meeting and talking to John Sexton, who is probably Ansel's best known protege. What an amazing guy, and he had some really amusing anecdotes to tell. Ansel was apparently quite the prankster!
Welcome to the Forum, Scott, enjoy.

I have been out of the photography seen since 1973 but, still have a great love to get back into it. My desire is outdoors and macro photos. I purchased a Nikon D 850 over 6 months ago but, am having a lot of problems with understanding the set ups and handling of this heavy camera. it is a great peace of equipment but, it might be a little bit to much for me to handle. I live in Naples, Fla. and cant find any one to guide me along. The users manual is a bit to steep for an old fart like me. If anyone out there wants to give me some guidance, it will be very appreciated. THANKS.
