In download one can just see the downturn on the bill tip, the bill is also serrated, helps in catching and holding fish, the favored food.
The color patterns, the bill and feet colors, and the mostly white underbody point to Common Merganser.
In the Chesapeake Bay area, one can see all three, Common, Red breasted, and Hooded, (my favorite, males of the Hooded) within minutes of each other. Mostly fall and winter are the best seasons.
I have a skull and attached beak from a Merganser that I found.
