It looks like a good idea but I don't think that PVC-covered wire is the best option. Do you have some plaited rope or cord to try?

I like your idea and agree with R.G. about a different cord...using something with texture like twine will add to the textures in the leaf and the wood. I would also try to have the rope/cord a darker color (maybe deep reddish brown to match the dark accents in the wood) so the the leaf stands out as your primary subject and the rope/cord as an accent to both the leaf and the wood. JUST MY OPINION.

I would try it with a sisal rope, it would add a bit more texture to the shot.

R.G., Dodie and amersfoort - Thank you for your comments. Interesting that you all pointed towards similar changes!

Actually this is a "found" image taken some years ago. I didn't change anything and the photo is the JPEG straight out of the camera.

If I were to stage this shot I would certainly try your suggestions.

This is the type of shot with possibly limited appeal other than to the person who took it. It is what it is and if you feel its worth showing then you have my vote.

You are welcome for the suggestions and perhaps one day when the weather isn't great you can experiment. I will have to disagree with Toleman's comment about the appeal of your photo since I do find the concept and some of the elements appealing. Viewing photos that are different from the norm can lead one to step out of their comfort zone and try something new. Your photo has similar elements to a photo I took many years ago and wanted to improve upon: now I have some new ideas and will make some notes for that point in time when I can work on them.

I think we all look for something out of the norm. I know I do. At least for me, more times than not I come up with a dud. To my eye this maybe one of those times. I applaud you for thinking outside the box.
The suggestions made about changing the wire with cord perhaps could improve the shot and change the look to something more appealing

It might be better in B&W.

Thank you, Heather. This is an older picture that I've never done anything with. I might try a B&W conversion.

Thank you, Frank. I have a visual interest in juxtapositions of unrelated shapes. That opens up lots of opportunities for pictures for me. Most of the time, though, I don't stage the shots and only shoot "found" images (as in this case).

It is interesting that most of you think the extension cord should be changed to a more rope-like cord. I'm not sure why you all feel that way. I have to think about that.....

One issue with the cord is the color. If it were more of an earthtone it would be a better fit. The other consideration is that the leaf and wood have prominent textures and the cord doesn't.

An enjoyable and informative discussion! srt, I very much like your practice of shooting "found" objects/vignettes. I also like the conversation about the cord because now I see where you're coming from (I always knew where the others were, 'cause I'd have their thoughts myself ).

Juxtaposition is not something I readily notice, might not recognize if I did, and possibly not have enough interest in the result to press the shutter. As Dodie suggested, your topic will give me another theme to pursue. Many thanks!
