Lynching or Hoax?

My grandmother was an avid photographer in her day. (She bought me my first camera) I have all her old photos and have been scanning them to digital.
This morning I got a big surprise! An image of a young boy hanging from a tree!! No explanations. No one to ask WTH as I am the last one in line. I'm pretty sure this was staged or at least I hope so. Location, she was born and raised in Warsaw IN.......what makes this really eerie is the her parents both committed suicide. Her Mother by poison and much later her father hung himself......I don't ever get creeped out but this surprised the hell out me.
The appears to be over a hundred years olds........around 1912.

As a funeral director of nearly 50 y0ears, I've dealt with situations like that way too many times. Suicide is never easy, except for the one who commits it.

Let us hope. Mouth open, tongue out. You’ll have to enlarge the head neck area to see if any stress reliever device is present.

Heavy crop and enlarge does not seem to show much. Comments?

The way the coat is pulled up suggests a harness under the arms. Still...what sort of parents pretend to hang their kid?

It was 2x3 image........when zooming in it gets highly pixelated..........Epson scan wont let me go any higher than 1200dpi.............I got Silverfast SE to do 1600. If I go higher it really bogs down. Looking for a barrel scanner but really....for one image?

It's apparent that it was staged. The angle of the torso clearly transmits the point of attachment of the rope is further down, causing the torso to lean forward. The head is angled upwards as well.
I would guess that few would have their mouths wide open with their tongue out like that...

The body is not hanging right for being hung by the neck. There would be no forward angle on the upper torso.
