I updated adobe creative cloud and now some of my PS tools are slow, lag. I called adobe, they took over my computer to check the problem. I was told I need to get SSD. I do not know anything about computers. I looked on best buy and there are many SSDs to choose from. I have a HP pavilion desktop 16 gb RAM. windows 10. AMD A8-5500 APU with radeon hd graphics card (i don’t know what any of that means or if it is pertinent). I am a full time nurse with a side portrait business, I only do 1 or two shoots per month but I do need to fix my problem. Can anyone recommend which SSD?

My thoughts also. I don't understand THAT much speed difference.
An SSD only eliminates head seek time, which is typically only a few milliseconds.

You don't need SSD drives.
Right now Western Digital has a sale on their premium usb drives.
https://shop.westerndigital.com/products/portable-drives/wd-black-p10-game-drive-usb-3-2-hdd#WDBA3A0040BBK-WESN
I purchased a 5tb Black drive to go with my other 12 WD 2, and 4 tb non-black drives.
As for reliability. I have a collect of over 20 usb drives.
I even have a pair of 30 gb Seagate drives that still work just fine.
Buy a few for redundancy. Use a powered USB hub.
I have two of these,

Along with 4, 4 port hubs.
All my pictures and data are on 5 usb drives.
My music files are on another 5 drives.
My days as a computer tech requires me to be so backed up.

Everybody stop. The OP is asking a specific question, which is which SSD to buy.

She is not talking about external storage. She is talking about buying an SSD to run her operating system and programs.

Everybody read this comparison.

https://windows101tricks.com/ssd-vs-hdd-which-is-better-for-you/

Not only is access time much faster with an SSD, the important thing is that file transfer speed is significantly greater. This means that programs that need to read and write to the disc will run faster. I can tell you that after replacing the spinning drive with an SSD in several computers, the difference in responsiveness is very significant.

As for which SSD to buy, I recommend one of the Samsung 850 EVO series.

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=samsung+850+evo&crid=3D3JPXPUEPKWH&sprefix=samsung+850%2Caps%2C213&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_11

This is an opinion based on personal experience.

As for how to get the SSD into the computer, this involves cloning the spinning drive and swapping them. It isn't difficult if you know how to do it, but someone not familiar with this operation might just as well pay someone to do it.

Oh, and these things come in a 2.5 inch form factor. An adapter is needed to mount one of these in a typical desktop with 3.5 inch drive bays. Not expensive.

Do you have a specific model on your computer?

Which operations in Photoshop have slowed down?

Does your computer have one or two drives?

The AMD APU probably has a built in integrated graphics processor, the Radeon HD, which is not a separate graphics card.

The choice for SSD entirely depends on whether you have an m.2 slot or need to rely on the SATA III standard connectors for 2.5" and 3.5" drives.

I am not all that sure an SSD will solve all of your problems, but the system will boot faster and programs will take less time to load if you replace the system drive with a faster SSD drive. If your graphics are integrated on your CPU, or APU as AMD refers to it, then you will likely get more of a boost by adding more memory, taking the system from 16gb to 32gb, and possibly adding a small SSD-SATA drive to perform as a scratch disk.

The more I know about your system the easier it will be for me to help you avoid going down a rabbit hole with all sorts of confusing and misleading, but well-intentioned advice. It's just plain irresponsible to make recommendations without having the full picture.

I use nothing but SSD's on Windows 10 and I still have that annoying lag problem with Lightroom and PS. It goes away with a reboot but no one has solved this issue yet and that includes completely wiping my computer and reinstalling windows.

I use the Samsung SSD 850 EVO and love it

Samsung Evo 360 is a great drive. I have 2 and it made a great speed improvement. Samsung is recognized as one of the best. You can find them on sale occasionally.

I recently changed to a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB drive for my desktop. What an amazing increase in speed!! I recommend downloading Samsung's Data Migration software, it is free and works very well.

Internet speed could very well be a part of your "slow"problem.
High traffic slows things down, as well as what your ISP provides, possibly if your ISP does throttling.

I installed a Crucial Technology 2TB SSD in my Lenovo Ideapad about 3 years ago and have no regrets. Almost instant startups and no worries about a head crash.

I agree that a fast SSD drive is your best option - however, replacing an existing spinning drive with a SSD drive and successfully transfering the applications/data is not for the faint of heart. Have that professionally done and then keep your original drive in a safe place.
