Shot a few pics this morning as the eagles were active along the river.
Pic 1 was shot at a distance of about 800 ft, based on google maps, with a Nikon 200-500 & a 1.4 TC on a D7200. Its not a great photo but does show six eagles vying for a dead carcass at the rivers edge about 1/3 up from the bottom and 1/3 from the right. Its not a great photo but just for the setting. There are a few crows in on the action as well but the eagles were keeping them at distance. Every so often the eagles would dance and another eagle would get an opportunity to dine.
Pic 2 & 3. It seemed part of the routine for the eagles to fly north and the circle back to the carcass location, again at about 800 ft.
Pic 4. While along another part of the river a pair of eagles presented a BIF opportunity which I was not ready for :-( but the trailing eagle had caught a fish and landed in a tree just up ahead. Now, in my experience, eagles are usually skittish. This one however was dining and its focus was there. After shooting 10 photos or so at distance I moved closer. I am literally standing 30 ft below the eagle as it eats the fish. It was dropping pieces of the fish within 6 feet of my location. I got 40 or more photos and when I felt I had enough, the eagle did a BIF.
Good start to the day.
