Just for fun. Whether you print your on photos or have a lab print them - which do you prefer, matte or glossy, and why?
Matte...no irritating reflections
Definitely matte. Same with glass(when framed). No reflections, and can see more in-depth(may just be me tho).
Glossy.
Just like 'em better.
Neither, for the most part I use Ilfords smooth gloss. Its somewhere in between
Matte mostly, no glare. Once in a while I will try something in glossy for a little "pop".
As everyone said matt gives you no glare, but it tends to take out a bit of sharpness. So depends what you want.
Many long years ago in a drug store far far away they offerd std, gloss, or a hybred matte with a slight sheen. I always found that mat more pleasing to me.
Here in Tampabay, now, I print gloss for the Tampabay Camera Club, because they present better. For my personal warm fuzzy feeling (mental, not fotofocus) I prefer matte. Matte looks good from any angle.
I just purchased 8x10 frames with glass for $1 each from the Dollar Tree. I want to start displaying my photo off-springs, not sure if I will use the glass. I have also used small wood-frame with edge wrap around. Perhaps the best way to go is having the Home-Depot/Lowes/etc. cut 1/2 plywood to use for wrap edge. SUGGESTIONS WELCOME.....
I tend to like matte for portraits and wedding. For Black and White I like gloss. If you ever see a genuine Adams B&W print you'll understand why. The gloss is best if it replicates a Silver Halide paper.
I like glossy for high contrast and bright color pictures. For other photos I find satin finish gives me good results. One mans delicious chocolate chip cookie is another ones fattening piece of baked goods.
I have a lab process my prints on a luster paper called Endura. It is somewhere in between gloss and matt.
I like matte. It gives, in my opinion a more professional look. I also don't put a border on my prints
