A beautiful place I never got to see. The one time we were there was on a night tour from our cruise ship and it was so dark that we had to take the tour guide's word that we were going through the park. As I recall, it was black!

Beautiful place to visit and photograph. Thank you for sharing and the color we need this time of year.

That is a sad story. The gardens are beautiful in daylight, but they can be a great experience in the evening as well; they have a quite unusual fireworks display once or twice a week.
That being said, part of what is so amazing about Butchart Gardens that is so hard to capture with a camera is the massive scale of the garden.
2 hours from a cruise ship is not the way to experience the gardens. Glad we had the chance to spend the better part of a day there on a separate trip prior to our cruise excursion. The gardens have some charm at night, but are best viewed in daylight - as the colors in these photographs attest.
If your only chance is a cruise excursion, plan in advance. Get a copy of their map and look at the photos others have posted online to find the places where you want to catch the last sunlight. Some parts of the garden are truly dark at night.

Frankly, we never heard of Butchart Gardens until we were on the tour. The ship was only in port a few hours at night because of a U.S. law that requires that cruise ships of foreign registry (virtually all cruise ships) that depart from a U.S. port and later return to a U.S. port make a foreign port of call the last port of call prior returning to a U.S port. Because of the very short stop at night, the tours were very limited in their scope and it was either take the tour or stay on the ship.

heavenly Place.....thank you.
Great series of a beautiful place
Glad you liked the photos --
Thanks for the kind words
As stated it was cold & rainy -- actually as I remember more of a mist then real rain --
Did have issues keeping the gear nice & dry --
The upside with the cold & wet was we just about had the place all to ourselves --
A special place indeed !!
