Probably 30 years ago, I put together a consulting team to make recommendations about the Health Care provision for Foster Children, in Baltimore City. It was an eye opener. The stories we came upon were certainly not like the Netflix story, although just as certainly they were there and we simply did not witness them for ourselves; but the quality of care and ability to monitor the kids was abysmal. The vast majority of caseworkers were incredibly dedicated and caring, but the huge quantity of cases they were forced to oversee, as well as the legal restrictions under which they worked made the entire system pathetically poor. One supervisor and I went to lunch one day and I asked her about her view of the future of these children. She literally began to cry and said, "We are raising an entire generation of potential psychopaths."

What about the rats in Baltimore..? Someone has to care about them too. Poor things have to forage through the garbage laden alleys and they have to live in those homes that should be condemned. I believe that PETA should protest the conditions that the rats have to live in. Oh well, at least the children have pets to grow up with.

Of course I say all of this in jest for to take it seriously is quite depressing and tests ones soul. The problem was long in making and it will be long in healing...if it ever does.

I find it strange that one has to take a test to show competency to drive a car yet there is no criteria required to be a parent. Heck, I even need a licence to own my dog and the City makes sure that I keep up with all of its vaccinations and I'm in serious trouble if I don't keep up with them.

Proposals such as legalizing all drugs, eliminating cash bail, encouraging fatherless families, flaunting immigration laws, sanctuary cities, no jail time for property crimes, late term abortion and an education system that fails to meet the basic needs of students in poor communities are the mantra of the free shit for ME crowd. The progression is geometric, two losers create two more losers who create 4 who create 8 then 16, etc. We are in for a rocky future. We are experiencing a children raising children disaster.

Clint, I could not agree with you more. The problem with "Children raising children" today is that there are few solid family units to give them guidance and to be a protector for their grandchildren when things go wrong.

Many of today's grandparents (grandparent) were children raising children themselves so they see no problems with the situation and many had seen their own children as more of a burden than a blessing.

The 'authorities' turn a deliberate blind eye to the FMG ('female genital mutilation') rampant in the Muslim community. An interesting aspect is that Planned Parenthood, as with other medical providers, is REQUIRED BY LAW to report such child abuse and child mutilation. But PP ignores its legal obligation and the authorities refuse to prosecute PP for non-reporting.

Or see them as a cash source. Then see their grandchildren as the same. Don’t get me wrong, there are millions that don’t contribute to this dystopian future. Many kids are firmly enfranchised in the middle class and have goals and hopes and the ability to see the promise of betterment. They, however, aren’t killing or torturing their own children.

I, too, have not seen the Netflix drama, and we would not wish to.

Luckily, life has been extraordinarily interesting for me, I’m 75, and while I acknowledge people come in all shapes and sizes, in an effort to understand I put it down to the myriad ways in which we were raised by our parents.

There are so many ways, good and bad, that we are brought up. Some not even knowing who their father was.

I don’t condone these terrible acts but, maybe, there’s some understanding there.

One of the convicts I worked with on Colorado’s Death Row and the last one put to death dragged his execution out for years claiming he was abused. Look up Gary Davis and his wife, Rebecca Davis. He and I spoke many times During the years I worked with him. We got along well because he and I both served in the USMC. He was an alcoholic and according to his wife, I worked with her also, when he drank he was abusive. She said he would turn on an iron and press it against her skin.

Both were in prison because they were celebrating his getting off of parole. They drove to Eastern Colorado where they tortured and killed a ranch woman. Rebecca testified against her husband and received a sentence of life in prison. Gary was sentenced to death.

While many people look upon convicts being put to death having been in that environment for over 20 years I guarantee each one truly earned that sentence. Gary Davis and another death row convict asked one day if I would personally be willing to pull the switch. Without hesitation I said I would be happy to do it. Both told me they knew I would say that. It is easy to think of someone behind bars as the victim. But consider that right here on UHH there are most likely numerous victims of child abuse and some child molestatation as well as other mental health causing problems. They somehow are able to have gone through life without killing people or becoming criminals.

Most licensing costs are only to give more money to local city, county and state governments.

You are correct by stating that society today are clueless, and the slap on the wrist punishment (If even applied) doesn't deter a thing.
I'm a firm believer, the punishment should fit the crime. You sexually assault and kill a person, then the criminal should be sexually assaulted and killed in the same manner. Sounds barbaric? What these animals do on a daily and repeat basis is nothing less than barbaric.

I agree,,,,,,,people who start bushfires should be chained down and burned... rapists should be raped... Hideous crimes need hideous punishments.

I cannot tell you how many times I have expresed this very thought regarding punishment of criminals. The only problem is who does the sexual assaulting or killing? Mechanical methods come to mind but the liberals of the country will be up in arms to prevent it.

I'll qualify my reasoning by stating that I worked in Federal prisons for a little over 22 years. I actually had physical contact with numerous convicted felons who committed such crimes and many times I had difficulty being civil toward them.

Not quite, the Feds did not have capital punishment for most of the time I worked with them. It was instituted for federal law enforcement and that included prison system employees. Also, I did not work at those facilities where execution was carried out.
