Here is a little more info. My camera is nikon 3400,using a nikon VR 18-300 3.5 lens with auto ISO.Maybe my 17-50 2.8 fixed aperture lens would be good to try. I have a couple prime lenses 50mm 1.8 and an 85mm but I find them hard to use with sports. The solution might be to wait until he is playing with the NBA and the gym light is good. I am trying to send a couple shots.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Without yet being able to see the EXIF datails, these look good! Your f/2.8 zoom will be a better choice, as will your 50 or 85mm, likely being your sharper lenses and enabling faster shutterspeeds, as well as turning off the flash. The ability to track the action with a prime takes practice and experience, experience at shooting, at anticipating the action, and at knowing where to position yourself relative to the action given the focal length of the lens.

Please take the idea to add a reply and store the attachments so we can see the shooting details.

Thanks. I am going to try the 17-50 zoom next time.
