Yeah, I work in a public high school and I have actually seen a group of students sitting within 2'-3' of each other, texting each other in silence, then laughing when someone posts a funny comment. Absolutely no verbal conversation.
It reminds me of the Asimov "robot" series of books that take place on Mars and the humans that live there are NEVER in the company of another human, all interactions are done through holograms.
Science fiction becomes science fact.

Sad but this is what our society has become, I retired from the New York State Department of Corrections after 41 years of service, a big part of my day was the gathering and sharing of information. When I retired last August, I did so for a few reasons, I felt that I had done my time and sadly it was getting harder and more frustrating to do my job because the lack of information sharing with some of my fellow officers, I can't say that I miss that part of my life. Being retired gives me more time to do the things that need to be done and things that I love to do. I have been involved with event photography for about 8 years and I do a few projects each year, often people looking to have an event photographed give so little information and they expect you to give them a price, at times there is no date listed, difficult to say you can do a shoot if you don't know if you will be available to do the event.

It doesn't help when both Parents are working and youngsters are left to their own devices (no pun intended). As they get older they become addicted to this Technology..no easy way out of this one!

Quite agree! I was at a Costa coffee shop this morning, to my right on the next table sat an elderly man. I was on social media when I saw a cartoon to do with pot holes on our roads! I caught his eye and showed him the cartoon, and for the next ten minutes we had a proper conversation. I think Einsteins quote is very true.

First off, God bless you for that work history, I could only handle the Federal Prison System work for 22 years. I agree with you that the lack of communicaation makes the job much more difficult. I've been retired now for almost 19 years and feel so much less stress and pressure. Photography does help with relaxation and doing what you want makes life more enjoyable. Happy retirement and happy photographing. Enjoy life.

There is a stray "no" in the parenthetical expression.
