The Old Mill in Pigeon Forge is a great photo opportunity and also an excellent choice to eat at.

Do you know if they will have the roads open by then?
They have been closed for a while due to repair.

It is Cades Cove. It was a small community many years ago until the Park Service took the land over and the people had to move out. A few cabins and churches were left and remain today. It is very photogenic with many open fields, cabins and often wildlife. There is an 11 mile loop road through the cove with pull offs if you want to stop. There is also an operating grist mill around the mid-point of the loop road.

However, it is one of the most popular spots in the Smokies and lots of traffic is the norm these days. On the weekends in the spring and fall it is often bumper to bumper. April will be very nice as the trees will be coming out and you even see some Dogwoods blooming.

You may also try Wears Valley. Lots of new development but there are some nice old churches and graveyards along this scenic drive.

Cade’s Cove is worth going to more than one morning. Get there thirty minutes before they open to avoid the crowds. From one morning to the next, depending on the weather, you will find a bit of fog at ground level that adds a dramatic look to landscapes. Both Newfound Gap and Clingmans Dome are worth visiting both at golden hour and blue hour.

Therein lies the problem - to find "something different".
Probably the way to find that is perhaps a different view or composition, which requires an artistic eye and imagination.

If you can’t find photo-ops on your own in and around Gatlinburg, sell your equipment.

Cades Cove is great but they may still be repairing the tunnel just before you get to it. i am nit sure what the time frame is on that. However the Roaring Fork Motor Nature trail is pretty nice as well. Several cabins, waterfalls, and lots of nature to view. Plus it is right off the main drag in Gatlinburg and not very far to get to.

Have you thought of taking look at the U of T cadaver farm? They place human bodies out in natural settings so they can study how the decay process works to get us back to ashes and dust.
