I like the photo of one of my grandchildren with his dog. I don't like the background but had difficulty changing it Any suggestions would be appreciated.

...Too Cute!! I don't mind the background much - a bump in Clarity and a little Contrast might boost things a bit.
Cool shot though!!
On that shot the background isn't that big a deal. It's the boy and his dog. Agree the suggestions above are worth trying.

Removing the background would be simple if you are comfortable with any number of software products that are designed to mask out a subject. It would be no different than removing an unpleasant sky and replacing it with something better.
Excellent shot just like it is. Definately an "aww" pic and if it were my son and dog it would be definate keeper. You might try adding a touch of cyan to offset yellow but don't turn the pic blue. It needs to stay to the warm side. Don't worry about the background. The subject is captured so well that the background really isn't distracting.

Why didn’t I think of that? I change skies regularly. Thanks!
Thanks to all for commenting on my grandson’s picture. The subject matter clouded my objectivity, which is not surprising.

That photo is perfect don't touch it. Nice job!!
You could reduce the highlights in the background and crop it a bit tighter. It's a very appealing image.

I have yet to see "perfect". While these are my subjective observations; and the photo is a definite keeper, I would like to see the distracting highlights in the upper left corner eliminated (would have to be cloned out rather than simply decreased) and the eyes of both the boy and the dog emphasized.
Of course, if the photographer sees no room for improvement I am simply wrong.
I tried some of your suggestions. The upper, left of the photo is so blown out that I couldn't do anything with it. Even substituting backgrounds didn't work. The part of ON1PhotoRaw2020 that adjusts the eyes didn't work for me. This revision contains only a crop, a slight reduction of the warmth of the photo and a vignette coming in from the top left.
The crop was a great idea. If anyone wants to try substituting a background and enhancing the eyes, I would be interested in seeing the results.
Thanks again to everyone.

Quick fix. Background is admittedly unexceptional. With my photos I get more adventurous and usually add texture to the files I save in folders for such purposes. Eyes are selectively brightened and detail added. Topaz and Adobe products used.
I will only add, that from my perspective, the crop applied doesn't give the subjects sufficient "breathing room"... but then if you like it...
