I'm not a sailor, TriX - just a passenger - so I'm not sure which one is a schooner. (Maybe the first one?)

Yes indeed. Sail boats with multiple masts and the foremast shorter are schooners. Modern designs favor ketches or yawls where the foremast is the taller of the two, but to me, the schooner is the most beautiful (with apologies to owners of other configurations).

Amen to that!

Your heeled way over shot made me laugh. I'm working on a memoir of our sailing days, which involves scanning some old film camera shots. I was amused by how many horizons I need to straighten!

Ketch has steering device ahead of aft mast.
Yawl has steering device behind aft mast.
