Printer for Note Cards

I was thinking about buying a printer capable of printing photo-note cards. The cards I'm interested in printing are 5" X 7" folded, so I assume the card stock would be 10" X 14" and around 0.016" (0.4mm) thick. Are there specific printers for handling this size card stock?

The Canon Pixma Pro-100 seems to enjoy a good reputation, but after reviewing its specifications on the Canon website it wasn't clear to me if it's capable of handling 10" X 14" card stock.

Does anyone have experience printing cards with the Pixma Pro-100 printer? Or, does anyone recommend a printer capable of printing photos on 10" X 14" card stock?

Thanks!

Jason

The card stock you want is 7" x 10" (5x7 when folded) Red River Paper has many choices. The Pro100 can handle it , no problem. Red River also has templates for printing.

It will print up to 13x19, so a 10x14 would work. You'd just have to fiddle in the printer settings to get it recognized and aligned correctly.

Thank you all for the replies!

Yes, the 7" X 10" is the size I need rather than the 10" X 14" I originally posted.

Notably, a 10" X 14" sheet would produce two 5" X 7" cards after cutting and folding, but would probably cause printing problems. Also I'm finding it difficult to find card stock in that particular size.

Buy whatever size paper is big enough and on sale, instead of some oddball size paper.

Odd sizes are usually more expensive than standard dimension paper.

Get a $15 paper cutter and trim to whatever dimensions you want.

Red River! I use 60# Pecos River Gloss, be sure to order the envelopes with it. I just set up the template for what I want in Lightroom, but I'm sure there are many other ways to do this. Cards turn out beautiful.

Thanks for the confirmation on Red River for card stock.

Regarding the "template" for printing, I don't have Lightroom but I do have Adobe Photoshop Elements 2020. Hopefully there's a template somewhere in this program that I can use for printing on card stock.

Hi Jason,

I don't use PS for any printing so I am unfamiliar with it for that purpose. I simply used the Print module in LR and I can set up whatever I want the way. Check google for possible templates for Elements.

I don't know about a template, because I haven't used one, yet.

HOWEVER, you can tell Elements to print to the Canon Pro-100 and there is a selection for paper size of 5X7.

Even better, the preview not only shows you what you will get, it even allows you to zoom and compose in the preview window!

Who needs a template?

Back to which printer, I find my Canon office printer actually does a better job than my Pto100. It handled the paper nicely from the rear tray.

If you are going to do a lot of cards you may want to consider a toner based printer. I used a xerox but it’s been awhile so not sure what models are available. You may check out the new Epson ones that don’t use cartridges too.

I use my Canon Pro-100 for printing cards. Like via the lens, I also use #60 Pecos River Gloss from Red River Paper, but I print through PS Elements. RRP provides templates and an excellent guide for printing the cards using PS or PS Elements on their web site. My cards turn out great!

There are lots of free card templates available online. I've used several different printers to make cards. Card stock has never been a problem with any printer I've used, although I've never used it with the Canon Pro-100. The tricky part is getting the card inserted correctly to print the other part of the card after you print the inside or outside. I practice with plain paper and text first.

Thank you for the feedback.

Does 60lb stock produce a fairly stiff card? For instance, does it result in the same feel and stiffness as a Hallmark or similar brand greeting card? Do you happen to know the MIL thickness?

Thanks!
