still catching up on last years shots
A nice shot here, but if you look, a full 1/2 of the image is empty space. If I had shot this, I would crop a significant portion of the image and concentrate on the head and neck, making the image a vertical with a very tight crop. This is a win-win because you will add greater emphasis to the animal and detail while eliminating the empty space that really ads nothing to the image. I teach photography at a college and continually see photographs that have significant unused space within the image and I always tell my students to ask themselves "What is necessary for this image?" and crop everything else out of the shot. If you'd like me to show you the crop I am discussing here. let me know and I will post.

Don't touch my image
Sure, don't want to do anything disagreeable to you. Simply trying to help and give you a bit more than the typical "Nice shot" response. Take care!

Strictly speaking, the left half of the photo is not "empty" because the body of the deer is there - would you feel the same way if s/he included the legs? If I had taken it, I might have cropped a tad off the right, but you want
some empty space so no one will think this is downtown NYC. On the other hand, I might have left more "empty" space so the deer wouldn't look like it is in a box {and to make the rule of thirds happy)
