I recently upgraded LR CC, and when I did, a new catalog was created, however only included images up to 2019. None of the images I imported in 2020 appeared, but they were there prior to the upgrade. Frustrating, at best. Even though I have over 30,000 images in LR, I'm still learning! Any suggestions on how I can see the images that were there prior to the upgrade. Thanks!

Did you want instead to use LR Classic?

I only use Lightroom Classic, so when there's a major upgrade, it informs me that my current catalog has to be updated for the new version, and everything loads. Did you inadvertently have a date range setting enabled?

I did the automatic upgrade for the subscription to LR Classic, I didn't change any dates, didn't know that was possible! I did find all my 2020 images in my master file, but I can't get them into LR now.

Sorry, it was the subscription to LR Classic to which I was referring. I did find the pictures in my master file, but they don't show up in LR. I've tried to move them into LR, no luck thus far. I'll keep trying!

When LR is updated and needs to update the catalog it will write a new catalog with the old name plus a suffix like-2. Your old catalog will still be on your disk.

If you double click the old catalog LR will try to open it, find that it needs to be updated and generate a new catalog which will probably have a new suffix, maybe-3. See if the new files come over with that conversion.

Another thing to try: look for the old version of LR on your computer. Sometimes an update installs a new program but doesn’t uninstall the old one. If you can run the old program, load the old catalog and make sure that the new files are there. If so, select all the new files and export them to a new catalog. Then try to load that catalog into the updated program.

If all else fails, uninstall LR and download it again.

Rather than making any corrective actions to problems you don't understand, I'd open a Technical Support Chat with Adobe and ask for their help ....

Thanks to everyone who replied, this is a great group. I finally figured out the issue, all is well, and all my 2020 pictures are now in Lightroom Classic!

You might wsnt to try Adobe's chat line or call the tech line. They have always been very helpful to me.

There are a couple of different LR options. If you were working in a catalog in LR Classic you simply need to go back to that catalog. You can create multiple catalogs in LR Classic so always be sure that you open the correct catalog. If you hold down the option or alt key and, while keeping the key held down, open the LR Classic software a box will pop up that shows your LR catalogs. Choose the LR catalog you want and then open it. Delete any blank LR catalogs. Also, when you do create a catalog you should know where it is being stored so that you can always find it when needed. Read the LR online help manual at Adobe.

Somehow the images went into my master catalog on my PC, didn't make it into LR Classic. When I finally discovered them, I had five folders with 216 pictures on my PC, all labeled "2020", so I imported each of the individual folders into LR Classic. It's still weird how all the 2020 images were showing in LR Classic before I upgraded, and somehow during the upgrade process they were no longer showing in LR. Thanks for all the suggestions to correct help, I also contacted Adobe/LR for help. Finally my photographer friend and computer whiz buddy in Colorado walked me through it on the phone. I hope I can remember what we did, so next time there's an upgrade, I can be prepared!

You might also want to save the edits in an xmp file.

Edit -> Catalog settings -> Metadata: check "Automatically write changes to xmp"

That will make it possible to keep any edits if you have to re-import things.
