My late friend and collegue, Col./Dr. Sherm Mathey. Sherm was a great guy, fought in Vietnam as an enlisted Marine in the late '60s. Returned home, went to vet school and then enlisted in the US Army as a veternary officer. He became one of the top guys in the aquasition, welfare and treatment of the dogs serving in all branches of the US military. After he retired he lived on a small ranch in rural Texas where he raised and loved mules and donkeys. He and his minature donkeys were regular features in local parades in his area as well as giving free rides to veterans and their families. Sadly, he was hit-and-run while on the road with his donkeys. The donkeys were OK but Sherm suffered trumatic head injuries that later resulted in his death. Here's to a great man and a dear friend. chase

It sounds like Sherm’s story would make an excellent segment of “A life well lived”. So sad that the story ended in tragedy.

i'm so sorry to hear it, chase. sherm was just doing what he loved to do. I wonder what happened to all his donkeys and if they were rescues.
