Got a E-mail from Amazon asking me to verify my account, as there was an attempt to sign in from a questionable source. They asked me to varify by filling out the Amazon info, name, password etc plus my social security number. I filled out everthing but NOt the SS#. Sounds like a scam. I did not send any info. Is this one going around?

You entered the info but didn't send?
If you did send - GO LOG IN AND CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD before it's too late. Just to be sure.
That crap goes around often.
I get them for places I don't have accounts, they figure they'll hit someone.

No reputable company will have you fill out anything via an email. They will tell you to log into your account and make changes. Heck, most won't even provide a hyperlink anymore, because those can be spoofed by showing the correct website, and the <a href> can point somewhere different.

Luckily I can view header and source information and see exactly where these originate.
Some from the Ukraine, some from Japan, Some from Russia,... All for AMERICAN companies.

And also view where the links go, like to domains that were created the same day as the email.

Reported many, had some domains suspended.

I just tell my not so computer savvy parents to hover their mouse over the link if they feel compelled to click on it. If the pop up shows anything off, don't click....or don't click anyway, no matter what...LOL

What one has to be careful with is their use of sub-domains, I've seen many this way.

Fidelity.someplace.com/ does NOT go to Fidelity!!!

BOAsecurity.anotherplace.com/ does NOT go to BOA security.

Amazon is a favorite for scammers and I get practice using the delete button. Now I’m getting at least five calls a day requesting me to update my social security account. Ya! Right.

It's been around for months here in the U.K. Had two calls this morning, can't put the no's in the blocker quick enough.

OH NO !!

I've gotten that email twice in the last week. If you look at the senders ad you'll see some screwy ad.
I sent a copy to Amazon at..
stop-spoofing@amazon.com

Yes, I have been getting several a week for months asking me to login with a new credit card because my prime membership will be (or is expired) and the card is outdated. Of course neither is true.

I got the same email a few days ago, so I sent them the info they requested:

Amazon password: drowssap
SS#: 123-45-6789
Name: Bernie Sanders

I don't know why, but I never heard back from them. ;)

That is how they get you - anyone can copy a logo and create a realistic looking email, but generally the return URL is NOT a normal URL.

I used to get those all the time--sent them straight to spam.
