The product code for bananas is 4011. This photo was made with a 40+ year old Minolta AF 35-70mm F3.5-f4.5 lens. There is one available on ebay for $7.49. The shot was made at 70mm with my Sony A65 set at the in-camera magnification of 2X which resulted in a 12 M.P. image. Amazing what those old Minolta lenses are capable of when attached to modern Sony alpha mount cameras.

Nice shot!

The number is the PLU - product lookup code. I can remember when there was controversy about this in the industry - putting stickers on fruit, which varieties did and which did not get PLUs, etc. It was difficult for us to get the grocery industry to handle fruit varieties that didn't have a PLU assigned to them.

4012 means "large navel orange." By the way, four digit codes starting with a 3 or a 4 are conventionally gropwn fruits and vegetables. 5 digit codes starting with a 9 mean organically grown produce. 5 digit codes starting with 8 mean genetically produce.

I am confused. Did you set a 2x digital zoom t o get a a 12 mp image.? Otherwise the lens at 70 mm is still 24 mp, although that image is a crop of full frame. Of course it's normal for a APSC format camera. But still 24 mp.

Yes, the in-camera magnification is an in camera crop on the Sony A65 unlike my Sony a57 which will maintain the same pixel count. I guess that I was just showing that the lens which has a MDF of about 15 inches will act like a macro at the 2x setting. In any case the lens is surprisingly sharp and a good buy at the price it goes for. The colors it produces are pure Minolta and the bokeh is nice as well.
