Have any of you Hogs tried Topaz Gigapixil AI? If so,
what do/did you think of it? I have a few old pics that
I scanned at a lower psi than I should have. Thinking
Gigapixil AI might help but thought I'd ask first. I
know that I can try it for free for awhile.
You might want to increase the air pressure on the scans. ;)
From my earlier post on 8/18/18:
I had been been using Photoshop Preserve Details 2.0 and On1 Perfect Resize to upsize images with pretty decent results. Topaz introduced A.I. Gigapixel, a new standalone application purportedly using artificial intelligence to resize images up to 600%. Since it has a free trial version, I downloaded it to see what it can do.
The attached image was originally 22"x15" and has been downsized for the web from a Topaz AI enlargement which was over 7' on the long side and had a file size of 1.3GB. Not sure where you could even get something this large printed, but it also worked well on images enlarged to more reasonable sizes like 24x36. The initial app was a little hinky, but nothing that prevents it from working on single images as long as you have the right graphics card.
I think it could come in handy for images from lower resolution cameras and smartphones, or where aggressive cropping limits enlargement size. In comparing the output quality to Photohop and ON1, IMHO it's a clear and decisive winner. Your mileage may vary.
If you're interested, there is an excellent review on it from Keith Cooper at Northlight Images and a shorter one from picturecorrect.com (with a discount code).
Topaz Labs has more detail in their product description:

LOVE Gigapixel AI. Because I very rarely print my images, I was keeping them at a fairly low size. Bought a new house and decided to decorate with some of my images. I used Gigapixel to increase sizes and had them printed. They all came out wonderful.
Just FYI, yesterday I tried Photozoom with a 9mp jpeg. It sharpened it and made it into a 46mp jpeg. I'm just guessing that it would blow up better from the 46mp file, but am not sure how big the final image would have to be to see the difference. Gigapixel probably does much the same thing.
Just make sure you have a good graphics card as it is graphics intensive...
The only problem I've encountered with it is over sharpening. I even set everything to zero and it came out sharpened. I do take extreme macro shots of micrometeorites that are very sharp to begin with so that is probably the problem but... The tech I e-mailed said they are 'working on it' and it should be fixed in the next upgrade.

I purchased Gigapixil Ai but haven't used it yet because I must upgrade my computer first. A couple days ago I came across this hands on video comparison which made wish I'd watched this first. FYI:

One of the things I have to do is manage product images and sometimes what we get from manufacturers is pretty bad.
Gigapixel AI sometimes helps only a bit and other times Its the closest thing to magic I've seen in a while.
