I could hear it, and knew what it was, so I grabbed my camera and headed out. They're replacing the towers on the big power lines that cross my street, and this must be another inspection. This was really cool to watch.

Neat pictures. Really like their sharpness with just enough blade blur to indicate movement. Even more exciting to watch is when they change the balls on the lines over lakes and rivers. There is a person sitting out on one of the pontoons exchanging those that have lost color. Think handling high power lines, high enough over water that if you fell you would get seriously hurt and you're tethered to the helicopter should it suddenly lose power. Not a job for the faint-hearted.

If you’ve ever watched them doing repairs by “bonding on”, where they literally attach the helicopter to the high voltage line while working, it’s even more impressive.

Haven't seen that. Takes even more intestinal fortitude (polite name for "Guts").
The pilot was really precise, smoothly moving from pole to pole, hovering just a couple feet away so the observer could check things out. Given the name on the side and the results of a quick Google search for the tail number, they do this all the time. This has been going on for several days, and there's been quite a "what's going on?" discussion on the local Next Door email network.
