Hi UHH members.

I tried to import a CR2 raw image file into PSE12. I changed cameras from Canon t2i to Canon 6D Mark ii and never had this from the y2k files. PSE12 error message says image file not supported from this camera.

Any idea on what I need to do.Keith

Thank you

Keith

As Longshadow's link suggests, your PSE 12 is no longer supported and cannot be updated to view your newer camera's raw files. I went through this, as have many others. My solution until I purchased PSE 2018 was to use the free dng converter:
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/digital-negative.html#downloads

Once you have it set up, it's very easy to convert the files (drag all of a folder's worth onto the shortcut and go have lunch ). Then you open the dng in PSE's ACR and edit them per usual.

Hi All,

Ok, I guess it is time to not only update my camera gear but my processing s\w and computer.

Oh the joys of photography.

Thank you for the inputs.

Off to research a computer and monitor.

As was succinctly expressed recently by another user, "What are you gonna do instead? Watch tv??"

You need to upgrade software; hardware will have to be upgraded only if software demands it.

You could also use the software packaged with camera, but that would require learning it.

I only have a Microsoft surface, so I might as well just jump in and get the items that I need.

It looks like I can add a 27 inch monitor to my surface pro 4. So if the surface will accept PSE20 I will just get the s/W and monitor for starters.

Any thoughts on going this direction?
Keith

Linda, thanks for the reminder, and the link.
If it wasn't for you JerryC41, CHG_CANON (Paul), TriX, MT Shooter, LFingar, and a few others I would still be in the weeds.
Actually I still am still in the weeds, however, at least now I can see the road from where I am, grin.

If you are happy with your current software go here and get the Adobe DNG converter. You can convert your files from CR2 to DNG and then open them with your Element 12. You can batch convert as well.

Update,

I finally down loaded the Adobe DNG file converter. Attached is one file I converted and then cropped as I am working on focus and DOF with my two lenses. (Canon 24-105) and (Tamron 150-600).

Thank you everyone for the guidance on the Adobe DNG. It is not to difficult of a transition.

Although I don't need to use the DNG Converter, the testing I've done is that it runs fast, runs in batch, enables support into legacy Adobe products and is free.
