The 5D4 is an outstanding camera. I’ve owned all the 5D’s’ and each series improved markedly. I still use my 5D3 as my second body but the 5D4 is better for low light and sports. The price has dropped to around $2500. A good deal since it started at $3500. Unless you’re willing to wait for the new R5 and pay considerably more, I suggest you get one.

You need to take into account the fact that I’ve been shooting Canons since the 60s, so I like the quality and the design philosophy of the brand. The answer to your question is that it is a solid, high performance, pro level camera. When I moved to digital from film, I started with a 7D, then a 7D2, but I do a lot of very low light indoor sports shooting, and that drove me to a full frame 5D3 that I could count on to deliver excellent low noise performance, even at ISO 12,800. After 3 years of solid performance with the 5D3, I got a great deal on a 5D4 with the grip. I sold the 5D3 for about $200 less than I paid for it 3 years ago, and when I sold it, it had 240K actuations and still looked and worked as new. The 5D4 is just as solid and weather resistant, has higher resolution, better DR and low light performance, anti-flicker, better AF, WIFi, EC with Auto ISO, and a tilting view screen (and touch screen if you like that). The controls and menus are straightforward. I just never worry about low light with this body. I usually shoot manual with auto ISO, and if it needs ISO 10,000 or 12,800, no problem. Long and short, it’s a great camera, but you can tell I’m obviously prejudiced. I do have other cameras, both film and mirrorless (Fuji) , and the 5D4 is no lightweight, but when I need predictable performance in any conditions, no matter how difficult, I pick up the 5D4, and I am never disappointed. It always delivers.

Started with Canon in the film era. When I switched to digital, I purchased a 5D then 5Dmk3 and now I own the 5D mkiv. They improved along the way, great dynamic range and IQ solid weather seal, rugged. Bit slow for Birds, but then I switch to a 7D mkii.

I have a Canon 7D, 6D, 5DIV, and a mirrorless RP.
The mirrorless Canon RP with Canon 24-105mm L F4 is the camera that I use for travel and when I'm just mucking about.
It is smaller, lighter weight, full-frame and turns out very good images.
The Canon 6D has some very good low lighting and specialty capabilities.
The Canon 7D mostly sits in the bottom drawer of my equipment case except for moon shots and dicey weather conditions or hostile environments.
However, if it is something important and absolutely has to be right I take the 5DIV with Canon 24-70mm L F-2.8 and/or my Canon 28-300mm L.
The Canon 5DIV always delivers, always.
Good luck with whatever you choose and I hope to see another UHHer shooter (Canon, Nikon, Son, etc.) around campus.
Smile,

What body do you use now?
What kind of photography do you do?
Will it replace the current body or be an additional body?
Do you care about the cost?
What are you not getting from your current setup that you think this will help?

I think you'll be quite pleased with it. It is a great camera. I only have the 6D II but when Ican afford an upgrade , it will be the MKIV or the R model for sure.......no question.

I started buying canon with the gX10 and a t5i and moved to the 5Diii when that came out , when the 5D IV came out I purchased the IV and then the 5DS for special work. The 5DIV is the best low light camera I have ever owned and does everything great. Buy it you will be very happy.

You are absolutely correct. I have a 5D4 also, and there is no tilting screen. What I MEANT to type was touch screen, but I typed tilting. Thought I corrected it

I bet no owners of the Canon will say they don't like it. The 5D has been around for years, with steady upgrades. If you want one, buy it. If you are torn between that and another camera, look for online comparisons. I never rely on personal opinions from owners of anything.
