A MAJOR cloud provider such as Amazon, Google, Apple or IBM, etc. (not Joe’s Cloud Service). Since you have a Mac, Apple ICloud is one obvious choice. One of your backups needs to be off-site (disaster recovery), and if you have decent Internet access, the cloud is a good choice.
You can accomplish the same thing without a monthly fee. Purchase a couple of large external drives, I use G-Tech drives. You can purchase a Drobo unit 20Tb, or some RAID storage system. The prices vary. I'd suggest at least two systems to use for backups.

I do a local backup and utilize cloud storage, it's off-site.

Bob, The problem with your method is that you don't have off-site storage for disaster recovery such as a fire or flooding. I would feel better about your backup plan if you routinely took one of your units to a safe deposit box or at least given to a friend for custody.
Highly recommend Backblaze. Backs up entire PC plus an external drive!! I have my 4TB G-Drive with all my RAW files & processed JPG's. All backed up on Backblaze. Check them out.
https://www.backblaze.com/And if you use this link:
https://secure.backblaze.com/r/01eh0rwe both get a month free!
Also, I mapped my Amazon backup to the directory on the external drive where I keep my RAW files. Amazon Prime members get unlimited photo storage.
Many Cloud providers offer a certain amount of storage for free. Depending on how much you have to backup, you might be able to divide your files between two or three free services. I would also recommend at least two good hard drives at home. I use 4 TB HGST Ultrastar drives. I've bought the "Renewed drives, and they've lasted for years.

OK, this brings up a question. Let's say a person uses this backup plan. Their house burns down. It's a complete loss. Or, addressing your flood, a flood does occur that washes the house completely off its foundation and moves it some miles from its original location. Do you think, in reality, photos are going to be a top of list issue with which to deal?

Of course not, but at some point in time, after you've gotten your dwelling back in order, you're going to want to get back to your avocation. Or at least I would and as devoted as you seem to be to photography, I believe that would be the case with you as well. I don't presume to know you but your posts would indicate your commitment to this craft.
Thank you for the compliment. You're correct. However, having dealt with insurance companies in the past, the major loss like a house would seem to be a mission impossible to resolve in any short order of time. I'm almost sure it would be a life-changing situation.
That said, I'm very devoted to photography and attempting to improve every day. It would prove difficult to abandon the craft. I don't even like ordinary life interfering with it. That happens from time to time. Again, thanks. I appreciate your compliment.

No, photos won’t be at the top of the list. But it won’t disappear either. After life returns to “normal” folks will want their photos. Also photos of the damage, for insurance and related reasons, should be uploaded to the cloud. Probably have to do so from a third-party computer. Having passwords will be problematic—but that’s a discussion for another day.
Getting back to the original question, I use SyncBack for unattended backup to an external drive. I have Carbonite to backup everything possible (documents, photos, emails, etc). If you have Amazon Prime, they offer free photo backup.
thanks I have heared of them I will check this out
can you back up to carbonite with a mac?
I am a prime member thats awesome to know thanks
