I've been looking for a decent rendition of this old song, but having failed, let me just repeat it as the poem it originally was, though I think the last four verses are rather clumsy to the modern ear.

The music, in various versions, carries lyrics apparently published in 1607 by Thomas Ford, in his Musicke of Sundrie Kindes.

There is a lady sweet and kind,
Was never face so pleas'd my mind;
I did but see her passing by,
And yet I'll love her till I die.

Her gesture, motion, and her smiles,
Her wit, her voice, my heart beguiles,
Beguiles my heart, I know not why,
And yet I'll love her till I die.

Her free behaviour, winning looks,
Will make a lawyer burn his books;
I touch'd her not, alas! not I,
And yet I'll love her till I die.

Had I her fast betwixt mine arms,
Judge you that think such sports were harms,
Were't any harm? no, no, fie, fie,
For I will love her till I die.

Should I remain confined there
So long as Ph{oe}bus in his sphere,
I to request, she to deny,
Yet would I love her till I die.

Cupid is winged and doth range,
Her country so my love doth change:
But change she earth, or change she sky,
Yet will I love her till I die.
I've been looking for a decent rendition of this o... (show quote)

What a beautiful poem, Ron - just beautiful. Love the illustration too.

Can't go without a memory of Ella - but what to chose from her so-rich repertoire? One of her Cole Porter choices, or something with Satchmo? Summertime is my all-time favourite, but to fit this theme, let's recall her Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered.

This one always makes me cry. It was "our song" and as we age, it's words and meaning become more real (I can't believe I am tearing up as I write this"). Daisies are my favorite flower - always have been. Judd Strunk who's recording of the song drove it to the top of the charts, was from Patton, ME. I think many of you can also relate to the sentiment expressed and have your own mental picture of the story line.

A Daisy a Day

He remembers the first time he met her
He remembers the first thing she said
He remembers the first time he held her
And the night that she came to his bed
He remembers her sweet way of saying
"Honey has something gone wrong"
He remembers the fun and the teasing
And the reason he wrote her this song
I'll give you a daisy a day, dear
I'll give you a daisy a day
I'll love you until the rivers run still
And the four winds we know blow away
They would walk down the street in the evening
And for years I would see them go by
And their love that was more than
The clothes that they wore
Could be seen in the gleam of their eyes
As a kid they would take me for candy
And I'd love to go tagging along
Holding hands while we walked to the corner
And the old man would sing her his song
I'll give you a daisy a day dear..." (back to the chorus)

Now he walks down the street in the evening
And he stops by the old candy store
And I somehow believe he's believing
That he's holding her hand like before
For he feels all her love walking with him
And he smiles at the things she might say
Then the old man walks up to the hilltop
And he gives her a daisy a day
I'll give you a daisy a day dear
I'll give you a daisy a day

This is one that always got everyone up from the drinking tables and out on the dance floor.

Another goodie, Larry. Just watched a PBS documentary on Coountry music that included Merle Haggard, Jim has a number of his original records - which no one now wants.

It's almost Valentine's Day and the perfect time to illustrate love songs using your images - layer, photoshop, add text, etc. What's your favorite love (or love lost) song?

Pat Good Morning Thanks for hosting the challenge. My Photos are scattered between 3 different drives, and most do not lend themselves to love sons. I will see what I can do.

Wonderful photos everyone.

Thanks, Dane. What's the one by Johnny Cash about big rigs and I think part of it is "I'll be home tonight"? Or "In the Misty Moonlight, by the flickering firelight" There has to be something to go with your toys - has to be.

An old song from the thirties, but did anyone ever sing it better than Cass Elliott?

Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you"
Birds singin' in the sycamore tree
Dream a little dream of me

Say "nighty-night" and kiss me
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me
While I'm alone and blue as can be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on, dear
Still craving your kiss
I'm longing to linger till dawn, dear
Just saying this

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you
But in your dreams, whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

Stars fading but I linger on, dear
Still craving your kiss
I'm longing to linger till dawn, dear
Just saying this

Sweet dreams till sunbeams find you
Sweet dreams that leave all worries far behind you
But in your dreams, whatever they be
Dream a little dream of me

Another A Daisy a Day. Pat, it's always nice to have a song that brings back so many memories. I'm glad you have one.
