The interesting thing about this picture is its background. I mentioned it in another thread that might not have been seen by my friends in this section. I took one of my favorite textures that I downloaded previously took it to Walmart getting a 20 x 30 print. Once printed I mounted it to black gator board. Found it to be too shiny so today I went to Michaels and got some matte spray to take the shine off it. It worked well. I then positioned it behind the pitcher for its backdrop. This let me have my favorite backdrop without having to mask it in as I have in the past. The material on base is just some cheep fabric I also got at Walmart. I used one flash to the right and behind along with an LED continuous light front just to the left and above the pitcher.

I am mentioning all this because in the spring when flowers start to bloom I'll be using this technique again for my flower photography. This method will be much easier to add different backgrounds that you can use them over and over again. Hope you find it useful.πŸ€”

So glad to hear the matte spray did the trick. This shot is gorgeous, Jim. The light seems perfect to me for emphasizing the form of the pitcher, and that color of cloth adds a richness. Even the folds look great!

What a beautiful still life, Jim, maybe even your best imo. The lighting and rich, earthy colors remind me of the works of the 'masters'.

I love the photograph but what about the pitcher? Does it happen to have P. Revere 1775 stamped on the bottom by chance. Do you have any information on it, what is it made of, what era was it made, how tall is it for a size perspective?

Yep the spray worked, it's called Mod Podge Matte- Matte Clear Acrylic Sealer. The people at Michaels weren't sure if it would work but I had no problem. Sprayed vertical and horizontal came out very even. The cloth is black but with the light and white balance it show a deep rich blue. I'm happy you approve the folds. Wasn't sure about them till I saw it on the big screen.
Thanks for commenting Linda.πŸ‘

Thanks Donna, when I saw the pitcher I hoped it would photograph just the way it did. Had to buy it.
