This is my preserved Ichneumon Wasp which is part of the Bill (newtoyou) collection so a big thanks goes out to him again.

It is a focus stacked image with a stack of 248 images at 10-micron steps between each one taken with the reversed 28mm lens setup that I have described before and the constant diffused LED and fiber optic lighting. I set a blue colored card behind the subject to create the dark blue background.

As always, thanks in advance to all who view and for your comments, suggestions, questions and critique.

Nicely done! Do you use software to help attain the 10 Micron steps?

I recently purchased Helicon Software, but have not found the time necessary to dive into it. I've only played around with it a little.

Amazing clarity, I am also interested in how you achieved all those 10 micron steps. and what program did you use in post production?

Thanks for asking for I enjoy sharing what I do and how I do it. I use a digital motorized focus rail that has software that can be operated on a Smartphone, tablet or PC to control the "start and stop total distance traveled" and the length of each step along the way. The precision of the digital motor is in the single micron range.

When I set the distance per step to be 10-micron as this one, the movement is imperceivable. I hear the motor hit but nothing else. Of course it does move however. It takes 30-minutes to nearly an hour to take the shots at such fine steps with a total distance traveled of just a few millimeters.

How the images are processed:

Imagine that you take a picture of a loaf of bread one slice at a time. Now you need to combine all of the images in order to view it as a complete loaf. This is what Zerene Stacker and other focus stacking software does. Of course it is looking at slices of the "crust of each slice only" (not the guts and gizzard for the camera can not see inside the subject).

DAMN, That's quite a rig, I'm impressed. My only comment now, since it takes so much time for a single image you should carefully consider what the image is and even more so, the composition of the final image.
Love to see more

Kpmac, someday the sun will come out and it will warm up a bit although for now this gives me something to do to pass time.
