Not loving my new Canon SX-40

Hi, I just bought this camera a few weeks ago. I usually use my Nikon D7000, but thought a bridge camera would be kinda neat. Well, I am having trouble with it:
-seems slow to write to card, too much time lost between shots
- slow to zoom in and out.
Am I doing something wrong, or do you think my camera has a problem?
Thanks!

the SX40 a a wonderful little camera.. However, if you are use to the 7000 Nikon, you are comparing apples to oranges... Smile

A DSLR it is not, an excellent bridge, it is. Expectations and reality do not always match up (voice of experience). :-) I suggest you use a class 10 SD card.

It takes about 1 to 2 second for a 40 to "reload" for another shot... Easy to get use to... Set it on "Sports" mode and you can click as fast as you wish... But there is stile a few seconds for it to get ready for more...

Thank you for your help. I guess I just need to learn how to work with a different camera. I didnt expect it to be the same as the DSLR, but not sure how to go about changing my expectations.

Yes, I only use class 10. BTW, any one know (if) how to get on continuous shoot and still be able to control aperture?

Are you shooting RAW or a RAW/JPEG combination? RAW images take longer to write to memory cards.

when you are used to steak..it's hard to go back to hamburger.

i bought one and had the same experience.

drop your expectations and you will be fine.

a dslr it is definitely not......but then neither is the price tag!!

Thinking of viewing shots. Is yours set to preview for a longer time between shots ?

The sx40 does not shoot RAW, but it was a good thought

Even my Fuji reloads slow in some settings and I am use to it. I like having the advantage of a bridge camera as compared to the money that I would have to spend to get a DSLR set up that I would need for the photos that I do. A DSLR would be nice for some things but not for everything.
