Aloha Uglies,
I recently purchased an Epson WF-7710 All-in-one printer that uses (4) cartridges. I just love this machine, I have no issues with the quality this printer puts out...so far. Lately, I am developing an interest to start printing my own pictures. I'm looking at purchasing some high premium photo paper to be used with this Epson printer for photo printing. So, the question is, should I buy a stand alone photo printer? Will a photo printer do a much better job than an "all-in-one" printer?" Will the difference be noticeable? I think I know the answer, just looking for your 2 cents.

I humbly look forward for your feedback. Mahalo....

i would get a stand alone photo printer, stand alone uses 6-8 color inks and would give you a better print Also Costco give great service and quality print on quality paper for a great price

I don't think others will say there's any appreciable difference, but I feel that Red Rive Paper should be your paper of choice. Not only do they provide a wide variety of papers but they stand by their product and offer lots of advice and tech help. I've used them for year now, and neve been disappointed. Look them up. djt

I have had a number of Epson All-in-One printers, including the latest, the 4730 and ET-8700. I agree that output is excellent but you might want to stick with Epson paper, because I've had some paper issues with other brands. If you're going to be printing a lot of pictures, the standalone would be fine, but if you're also doing other stuff and occasional prints, I'd stick with your All In One.

If you are wanting to print your photos to frame and hang on your wall, or to provide gifts to others, go with a dedicated photo printer. The Canon Pro 100 is an excellent photo printer at a very reasonable price. You can make prints up to 13 X 19 inches.

It depends on how "perfect" you want the prints to be.

When considering a top end printer, keep in mind the cost of the ink. Brand inks can be quite expensive on an ongoing basis. Some have discussed 3rd party or "do it yourself" refills, but so far I have not gone that route. Just suggesting look at the package vs. using a printing service. Have fun!

Highest quality..dedicated photo printer my favorite is the Epson 2880 $$$ and red river paper or epson paper. Epson printers seem to really like epson paper. General everyday photos multipurpose printer in photo resolution would be fine

For a long time I had Canon photo printers and a Brother MFC, eventually I decided I didn't print enough any more to bother replacing the Canon, then I was surprised at the results out of the MFC, if your not selling your prints or doing really big prints, I'd try a MFC, I think this Brother was under a hundred $ on sale direct from brother.

I’m on the same fence... id like a ink tank printer like the et-7700, it does have the extra black photo Ink and I hear the Oem ink is decently priced and lasts a long time. For the price of buying the regular photo printer cartridges I’d just prefer to send off for prints; although I’m sometimes disappointed by the results.

If photo quality is not an important issue, you should consider cost. I would certainly not use an expensive photo paper on a four color printer. Although an eight color photo printer such as the Canon Pro-100 is a top notch printer at a very reasonable price, you should understand up front that your prints will cost you more in small quantities than sending them to a professional lab for printing. You should consider that although the cost of the printer is relatively low, color photo inks are very expensive, don't last long and there are eight instead of four. Additionally, there is also the cost of paper which also can be very pricy. It will also be very important that your monitor has a true Adobe RGB color gamut and that you add the cost of a monitor calibrator such as a Spyder or X-rite to your setup cost and, if you are going to use the more expensive papers, a printer calibrator would also be in order. On the positive side, you will gain control of the process and, with practice, exceptional quality prints. Even though I have all the equipment, for proofing 4 X 6 prints, I send them out because it is so much cheaper than printing them myself. I save my printer for large display prints.

Yes, I think you'll be impressed at how much better the quality in the prints will be, when using a dedicated photo printer!
