The airplane is a T-33 Shooting Star. It 1st flew in 1948 & was still in use by fighter interceptor squadrons as an intercept trainer target for new pilots assigned to squadrons. I was assigned to the 48th FIS at Langley AFB, VA in 1985-86. We had 1 of the oldest T-33's still in active service. The Bolivian Air Force retired their last T-33 in 1987.
In 1948 I was 8 years old and living at the end of one of the runways at O'hare Airport. We used to run out of the house and look up when we heard one of these going over. Then, we got to see the Sabre Jets a few years later. A great time in America when we all looked forward, not backward like today.
