I bought this camera to use as my travel camera and to take into events that wouldn't allow full on DSLR Kits.
Tuesday I went to a Washington Capitals game with my son. While the Capital One Arena allows DSLRS, they do have a bag size limitation. I didn't have a bag small enough so I decided to take the Panasonic.
I am impressed with the images it took. It has shown to be well worth the $380.00 I paid on ebay for the used copy.
The only post process was batch denoise processing.
It shows you do not need to buy the latest greatest to get good images.

I agree, this is a good camera for travelling, hiking or climbing.
The only wish I have is, to have a programmable selftimer so I don't have to carry extra radio operated trigger.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1000 could be a very impressive superzoom camera with an F2.8-4, 25-400mm lens, and a one-inch sensor. Very good in both photo and video quality, and support for 4K videos make the camera future-proof. The FZ1000 features a beautiful XGA EVF and an articulating LCD. Handling and build quality aren't perfect, but the camera's features structure for it.

I had one a few years ago. I did a search and it says it has a self timer. Look at this page....

Yes, Dave, I know,
I still have that very nice work horse and like it - BUT - I was wishing for a PROGRAMMABLE selftimer, letting you to set it up to - let us say - one minute delay, so you can ski a distance away from the camera and still get into a picture.
Without a separate radio controlled shutter release.
Only a few camera models have this particular feature.

For what it is and the price I paid, I am very impressed.
The images could have been better if I spent more time in post perhaps adjusting the exposure and enhancing sharpness and shadows.
The denoise process that was done with most of them were minimal and since it was an automatic batch run, didn't require much effort at all.
My only gripe, and this is my gripe with most all EVF's, is tracking fast moving objects. I did a lot of "spray and praying".

It does not allow for a "programmable" self timer.
It can do 10 seconds or 2 seconds or 10 seconds with 3 shots 2 seconds apart.
There is no option to enter in the number of seconds or minutes to wait before taking the picture.
