I made the upgrade to WIN10 Pro just before the Jan 14 deadline. My computer tech made sure that my desktop screen stayed the same (YEH). It has been weeks but I finally realized that programs were not opening the way they had been set too. At first I tried to set my photos to open to PAINTSHOP PRO (my fav photo program), several photo programs came up in the list including Affinity, InfanView64, but PSP 19 was not available from the list to chose from??? I got it to set Affinity as the default BUT it also set Affinity to be the default for all the PDF docs ( NOT GOOD). I went to the book store and got a WIN10 book. I went on line to look up how to set Win10 defaults, copied and pasted all the instructions from 5 sources and found that back in late 2018 and early 2019 that Win10 had issues with setting defaults. Still no help!!! While I was able to get my computer to reset my PDF docs to open with Adobe reader, when I tried to reset my photo default settings now the settings screen started freezing so I closed the settings screen. I was able to do the back door method of clicking on a JPG. and selecting properties. I clicked on GENERAL and then clicked on CHANGE to open it with PSP 19. When I open JPG's it still asks me if I want the computer to use this program. So still not working like it did in Win7. I admit I was able to live in the Win7 world but Win10 wants to control everything. NOT GOOD for me. The version of Win10 is 1909 (the latest). I hope maybe someone here will answer this posting. Thanks

If you right click on the file, you can choose “open with” and choose an application. You usually then get a pop up window that asks if you want to open future files of the same type with this ap. Choose yes, and hopefully that will solve your issue. If not, let us know, and I’ll provide an alternate method.

As I stated in my opening, that is what I have already done. It still asks me if I want use PSP to open the files every time I click on another JPG. When I opened setting and asked to set defaults, I chose to set by file types. On the left side of the opened screen was a list of file types, they showed as faded file types and would NOT allow me to select .jpg's. I made the assumption that all those file types would be under the "photo" selections. Like I stated, when I clicked on the "photo" symbol, a list of software selections came up to chose from but Corel PaintShop Pro was not in the list to select. This is where the screen froze and I had to close out of settings. I am NOT a tech nerd so I did not try to set anything in the register as was a suggestion on how to fix this. Thanks for replying. What now?

Do you have the latest version of psp?
Could be an older version won't play well with win10.

When you scroll down to JPG it is greyed out. You are supposed to click on whatever symbol to the right.

If you then scroll down to the P's you went too far. It will be listed as Corel Paint Shop Pro

You may have already figured this out, but I mention it just in case.

Bill:
You are correct, the extensions are all greyed out. When I clicked on the "photo" default icon, Corel Paint Shop Pro is NOT in my list of programs to set as the default program. The only Corel selection that show is Corel PhotoMirage. Thanks for trying to help.

"Maybe" you have to do this first???

Open Paint Shop™ Pro® and select File | Preferences | File Format Associations. In the File Format Associations dialog box, select the file types you would like associated with Paint Shop™ Pro® and click Ok.

I noticed a third selection in Window ... "Select file type by App'

This has me puzzled because I can't remember how I set mine up.

This is too complicated/confusing for you to figure out in the give & take here. You need to sit down with a handy computer user (not necessarily a "tech") to see what programs you HAVE on your computer, and how to make a program the default one for opening a particular file type. A little in-person instruction can go a loooooong way! It's just basic operating system usage in Windows or Mac or Linux.

What nadelewitz said.

And... to partially button up the version issue, I use PSP 5, PSP 9 and Corel PSP 10 under windows 10 (each has at least one feature that the other 2 do not, or operates in a fashion different from the other 2), so it isn't a windows intolerance for an older version; perhaps for a newer (C-PSP 19) version, but that seems unlikely.

For “second” time, are you clicking with right or left button?

I have no idea why this comment is relevant to mine, the one above. Mine is very relevant to the topic of this thread, because the buttons give different behaviors.
