After a year of getting medical paperwork taken care of my son was finally accepted into the U.S. Army. We are so proud of him. He left Denver Meps on Jan 13th headed to Fort Benning, GA. His plane landed safe in Atlanta but with all the rain they had the bus that was taking them from Atlanta to Fort Benning hydroplaned and ended up in a ditch. No one was hurt but they had to wait for another bus to arrive for them and they got to the base at 2am. What a way to start his Army life.
He spent 8 days at reception (processing) and is now in Red phase of Basic Training (Boot camp).
Family day is in 7 weeks and I can't to see my boy again.
Dakota is the redhead in the front row.
Congratulations and best wishes for him. I spent 30 years with the Army and loved it.

Thank you and Thank you for your service.
My husband spent 30 years in the Navy and was on the USS Carl Vinson for about 3 years. Loved every minute of it.

Oh I know. Fort Benning have been posting photos of their training and saw my boy for the first time with no hair. What a dramatic change. Being an Army Mom is tough. I have so many emotions. But am so proud of him.
Military service is the epitome of love of country and family. It's not for everyone but thank God there are those chosen few in each generation.
Many thoughts, with Honor and respect.

Congratulations.
Tell him to enjoy basic.
I found it to be fun because of my attitude kept me from taking things personally.
He will learn a whole lot with a good attitude even when doing crap things.
I also trained out of Benning and took some additional training there as well after graduation.

Exactly. I also enjoyed basic just like you did and for the same reasons. I didn't look at basic as something terrible. I just looked at it as something I had to do before I could get into flight school. I found most of the fellows who had a tough time were ones who continually tried to buck the system so to speak. It took them some time to learn that didn't work in the Army.
What a wonderful young man. I wish him the best.
Thank him for me. My oldest son served as a Marine. Two towers in Iraq in the Fallujah area.
