Every year, a large flock of these birds arrive to gorge themselves with Yaupon berries. These berries must cause them to need lots of water.

Yaupon is Ilex, a holly. Very astringent.
A wonder they eat it.
Must realy make them thirsty.

Ilex vomitoria - not the most appetizing name for a plant. Ilex verticillata - "Michigan holly" - is a favorite when they come through here.
