Hi all, need some advice. My friend has a Xume magnetic filter stuck on her Canon 24-105 lens. She dinged the filter, it is dented and will not turn. I ordered a filter wrench from B&H and it does not budge it. Am wondering what my options are. I am living near Daytona , FL for a few months and and not aware of any camera stores where I could take it and have it fixed. May have to send it to Canon as a last resort. Do any of you hoggers have a secret solution? Many thanks!

Filters are often a different metal than the lens so try putting ice on the filter and see if it will move after you get it really cold. You can try the frig first??

I tried several tools for a similar stuck filter on the same lens. If you have a good kitchen products store, or order online, consider the OXO Good Grips Jar Opener with Base Pad. Grabs that filter just like the lid of a mason jar and takes it right off.

Do you mean the magnetic holder is dinged? If that's the case, there's a very good chance that the lens barrel was dinned as well, It doesn't sound like a DIY project.

You say the filter is bent. Where? Just the outer edge or where it threads into the lens it is mounted on. If the lens threads are bent too, it may have to be carefully cut off (worst case)

Good question -the filter is bent on the outer edge-there is an indentation of approx 1/16 of an inch, so I do not believe the threads are impacted.

Try a rubber band.

I am confused since the Xume is a two piece system. Is the ring on the lens stuck or the ring on the filter?

I wonder if that is the same filter wrench the OP says he ordered from B&H. Maybe???

If the filter ring is stuck to the filter the OP will need a way to hold the filter and turn the mounting ring. That might take 2 sets, just saying...

[the ring that attaches to the lens is stuck. I wish the ring were stuck to the magnetic cap but that could not happen. [There is no filter on the lens, only the Xume ring that attaches to the lens. quote=finalimage][the ring that attaches to the lens is stuck.
