Not shown are the two 200 or so 3/8th inch ball bearing weight bags I will make. Linen bourbon bags, classy.

👍! I should put my rig up like that on the dining room table, instead of on the floor (where it is a scary tripping hazard). The Mrs. can't object to both that and the critter on the table, can she?

Do you use the 2-axis rail to position the camera to the subject?

No. If the one I think, the ratchet one, too hard if on any angle.
It tends to bind. I have two single and two 2 axis ones if anyone interested.

I moved the subject via the jack and moving the vial. That obviously won't work in the field.
I have a couple lighter weight heads, and the ball heads.
A 1.25 inch ball head, a QR and plate. Just stiff enough, just loose enough. Under $18 delivered.
And a repurposed bellows rail for fine adjustment.
So with mix and match I have many options.
And there are two 22inch Manfroto flex arms on the way.
I can also mount one of my Bogen 3024 heads on the tripod first. Then the bar to that. More adjustability.
This is also solving my developing shake problem.
I am finding no reason to add the magic arm to the equation. Two clamps will hold the accessories.
Flash will be fairly easy. I have some low profile, low power flashes you spoke of a bit back. And off the camera slaved remotes and light tripods for flashes. And some brackets for odd flash placement. I'll be busy. I use closed cell styrene foam for defusion. Stack thin pieces to suit.
Once worked out the various components will stay together.
The reason for multiples of the same item.
Add my Canon 5D as a counterweight and I'm all set.
Now, what lens to use on the 5D as counterweight.😊
I will keep you apprised. Plan on having practiced before going outside. Easier to learn warm, dry, and on a table.
