This big guy’s eyes drew me in. I think I have posted this before but I love looking into his eyes. He’s at the Atlanta zoo. Shooting through a glass barrier.

Oh what the heck... Here are a few of the eyes that mean so much to me. Some of my family.

The older woman holding the baby is my late Great Aunt and she is holding my Grandson. This was Christmas 3 years ago. He was 11 months old and she was 101 years old. She passed away about a month after this photo was taken. The photo represents 5 generations.

I love eyes.

The power in the eyes of a person or animal draws you into a photograph. The stronger the eyes are, the more you will draw attention of the viewer. I do not photograph people that much but do like to emphasis eyes in my non-human subjects. I have done some reading on the subject and have a few ideas on emphasizing the eyes of a subject to create interest and emotion in a picture.
-Focus on the eyes, make sure they are in sharp focus
-Line of sight: use the eyes of a subject to point out something else in the picture or draw your eye outside the frame
-Ask the subject to incline their head so their eyes are on a diagonal
-Catchlights: these are the flickers of light or reflections in the eyes that bring it to life

I am looking forward to your photographs emphasizing eyes. Have fun and as always thanks for participating.
The power in the eyes of a person or animal draws ... (show quote)

We are indeed drawn instinctively to the eyes even when they are shrouded in chaos or random shapes. Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon that causes us to look for faces even in the most unlikely places like clouds, potatoes, rocks etc. Some say it is the remnants of a survival technique that enabled us to determine friend or foe. Example here shows that even in a frame of total chaos, we are immediately drawn to the eyes.
