I recently took this photo one morning from my balcony. Liked it because the Tule fog blanketed parts of the landscape.

I’ve gotten plenty of compliments on the shot, however, I wonder about two things in particular. First, is it too busy? There’s a lot going on in the picture. Second, should the foreground be darker? My goal for the photo was for folks to focus on the fog. When I first look at the photo, my eyes see the trees in the foreground, then eventually the eyes go to the mid ground. Is it OK for the eyes to start in the foreground and then eventually settle in the mid ground, or should the foreground be darker so that the eyes don’t necessarily settle there first?

Answers to these questions will also help me in general with other photos. Any other feedback on how I might improve this photo is also very welcomed. I really want feedback, and am not thin skinned. Just trying to learn. Thanks for an feedback you’re willing to provide!

I like it as is but if your intention is to focus the viewer on the fog I would crop some of the foreground.

Thanks. I’ve already cropped some from the top and bottom, but could do more.

Need to ask yourself Frederick "What am I trying to say with this image? Adjust it if you need too until you get your answer

Great shot Fredrick. To me, the scene contrast is overly done. Perhaps put a gradient on the image to lower the contrast or perhaps better the saturation over the lower part to draw the viewers' eyes to the spectacular fog and sky. My compliments on the photo.

My first reaction is that it is a fine picture. My second is that it is TWO pictures! You have the village backed by the fog and you have the fog backed by the mountains. Play around with these concepts and see what I mean. Here is a picture, some say the best known painting of all that has a village and a startling background:
