Photoshop 6 has arrived and I'm afraid to open the box.

I just received my new Photoshop 6 from Amazon. I ordered it a while back when they issued the $400 promotional coupon and it just came in the mail. (Final Price was $198).

Now comes the hard part daring to open the box and start a new learning adventure. I have Photoshop 4 now so from what I have read there have been a lot of changes made.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Do you mean Photoshop 4 (must be 12 or 14 years ago), of CS4.

If CS4, just install it and get started. Get a CS6 book that goes over all the improvements. Not a big deal - you will feel right at home in no time.

If you mean Photoshop 4. You Will be overwhelmed!

Yes, if you're upgrading from CS4 and felt comfortable with it, you'll hit the ground running with CS6. The interface elements are now dark gray as opposed to light gray, but I quickly found I like the new way. If you don't like it, there's an option to change it to a look very similar to the older versions.

Best features I've found so far: the new ACR with its vastly improved Clarity slider results, the Adaptive Wide Angle filter, and the fact that the new version auto-saves in the background.

Thanks it is CS4, I had Photoshop 4 at one time but that was a decade or so ago.

Yeah - that is what I figured. I think you will LOVE CS6. There are not many changes from CS4, but quite a few additions.

As was pointed out, the new ACR is tons better, the interface is better, you will find the Dodge and Burn tool is now actually useful, The Content Aware Fill and Content Aware Move are amazing and much more. You really do need to get a book. The Scott Kelby CS6 book is good and I am sure there are others.

Kelby's book is by far the best if you are just getting back in the game. He presents the material like your best friend and doesn't get stuck in the weeds like some of the others do.

Photoshop CS6 has some outstanding features and improvements over CS4. Some learning? Yes. If you bring in RAW images, the improvements there are amazing.

Take a look at Scott Kelby's book, as it directs you through the use of CS6 with clarity.

I actually have a copy of Photoshop version 4. It was the first one I purchased while in graduate school. Sooooome time ago. I now am using CS4 but will probably upgrade to CS6 this year.

Yes, do an update as soon as you do your install. ACR has some improvements that won't show up unless you do the update.

I agree. The Content Aware Fill and Content Aware Move are amazing and this version will do movies. I don't but it will. The basic features are pretty much the same as you are used to but wow, the new ones are great! Have fun.

I received an email with the same offer. I went to Amazon to check it out. I clicked for more information, heard a ping, and read a new e-mail from Amazon thanking me for my purchase at a cost of slightly more than $582.00. I never did figure out what I did wrong, but I have purchased more than 100 items on Amazon. I immediately cancelled the order, heard a ping and read an e-mail from the vendor thanking me for my order. Another ping from Amazon where they cancelled my order. Yet another ping from the vendor telling me they cancelled my order and telling me to disregard another e-mail that I actually received a few seconds later. Now the interesting part. I later attempted to use the same card that was charged and discovered the card use was now blocked by the ATM people contracted with my bank. This all occurred on the last Sunday in August. On Sunday evening. I was sure my card was blocked due to this transaction. Wrong. The card was blocked because someone about the same time tried to charge that was for $5.99. The card was cancelled and a new one was issued. I'm glad to see the offer was not a scam. Congrats.
