Of a Red-bellied Woodpecker.
Going through some of my photos I came across this one from back in 2017.
Kind people and photographers leave seed for the birds at this location they have become used to people being close.
Picture taken with Nikon D500 and the Nikon 200-500mm lens
Shutter speed 1/3200, ISO 1800, f/5.6
Distance of 5.9 meters based on the Focus Distance read in the picture metadata.
Hope you enjoy the image as much as I do.
The downloads will provide a little more detail regarding the barbs on the tongue.

Vietnam Vet,
Thanks for the kind response.
This encourages me to post the other of a Tufted Titmouse, his tongue has a scalloped front edge.

Mike

I like the close crop. Both versions are good, though.

MadMikeOne,
Thanks for the response, and kind words.
When I saw the tongue I had to investigate myself, I found the link very interesting if you scroll down the information about the Hummingbird just blew me away.

kpmac,
I like the close crop and when my significant other saw the close up she was amazed at the eye detail.
So yes there is a little something for all between the 2 images.
Thanks for your response.

Mike
