Of a Red-bellied Woodpecker.
Going through some of my photos I came across this one from back in 2017.
Kind people and photographers leave seed for the birds at this location they have become used to people being close.
Picture taken with Nikon D500 and the Nikon 200-500mm lens
Shutter speed 1/3200, ISO 1800, f/5.6
Distance of 5.9 meters based on the Focus Distance read in the picture metadata.
Hope you enjoy the image as much as I do.
The downloads will provide a little more detail regarding the barbs on the tongue.
Of all the bird pictures on this site, I have never seen a picture of a birds tongue before. This is cool. thank you for sharing

I like the close crop and when my significant other saw the close up she was amazed at the eye detail.
