I currently have a Canon T2i and I love it. I want to upgrade to full frame and would appreciated some suggestions. I am looking at the Canon 6D Mark ii for these reasons: Higher resolution (26.2MP vs. 18 I have now and 24.3 in Nikon), articulating LCD screen, WiFi, reliability, familiarity, number of AF points, processor speed, and higher ISO rating than price equivalent Nikon. I am open minded, but it must be DSLR; I do not want to go mirror-less. Thank you in advance for all your helpful suggestions/advice. P.S. I shoot a lot of landscape, wildlife and low light situations such as people around campfire and astral photography.

How much do you want to spend? Do you have EF (not EF-S) lenses that will work on an EOS full-frame camera? If 'no', you're not just buying a camera, but buying a body and lens(es). How much do you want to spend ... All the other features, other than the sensor size, are accomplished with newer or more advanced crop models in the EOS DLSR line.

The 6DII is a fine camera, other than for your wildlife aspirations and advanced AF system needs. Rejecting a mirrorless body would seem like you've drank the full frame kool-aid without understand what is in the glass. The adapter to the EOS R-mount would let you use both your EF and EF-S lenses on the mirrorless body if buying new / more full-frame lenses is a limiting factor. If money is not a limiting factor, you should be considering the EOS 5DIV.

I would like to stay under $2000. And yes, I will have to buy lenses also. I have found some good deals for 6D Mii bodies with lenses for $900-$1500. Just don't want to limit myself and take the leap if there is something else I should be looking at in the same price range.

You missed the 1-day sale before the holidays when the 5DIV dropped to / below $2000 new from Canon. The articulating screens are getting more typical, but still are not considered industrial strength in working professional cameras, and why the don't appear in the 1-Series models nor the other top models from Nikon, Canon, etc. I'm not dismissing the 6DII, as it's a great general purpose camera, just not if your purposes include sports / action / fast moving wildlife. A 6DII less than $1000 would be a great price, lightly used and even better if new.

You will need FF lenses. I think you should consider the EOS-R or EOS-RP. They are both not expensive.

Personally,I would consider a used 5D MKIII as opposed to a 6D MKII IF you can find one with a reasonable number of clicks (I sold mine with about 260,000, and it was still like new). It is more rugged pro level body and has superior AF (but no WiFi if that’s important to you). i’m seeing them in the $1000-1200 range, which leaves you enough for an “L series” zoom or prime(s) - you can buy an EF 35 f2, an EF 85 f1.8 AND an EF 50 f1.8 for $1,000, all of which are tack sharp and fast, though not as versatile as a zoom.

I love the suggestion on the 5D Mark IV! A little out of my price range, but something for me to keep an eye on. The articulating screen is not a deal-breaker for me. I just like the idea of being able to turn the screen inward to protect it from damage. I have some scratches on mine from rubbing against my coat when I first got it. I use screen protectors now.

I am an avid hobbyist and don't make a living from photography. I chose my 6D2 over a the 5D4 strictly for the articulated touch screen because it is that important to me for the type of work I like to do which includes low-to-the-ground macro and close-ups. No regrets whatsoever. I would probably have chosen the 5D4 if I had to make a living with it.

If I were starting from scratch, I would probably go with one of the mirrorless cameras but, as of now, not the Canon mirrorless cameras because they don't yet take focus stacking images.

My wife has a Canon 5dmk4 and likes it. I have the Canon 1DSmk3, it's older tech but handles noise nicely. The 1DX would be a nice choice. BnH has some used one's and the 1DXmk3 is on it's way.

The RP certainly does take focus stacked images automatically, up to 200 automatically composited in the included dpp4 software.

You said no mirrorless, but I'd encourage you to find out more before eliminating the Canon RP. It is within your $2000 budget including the excellent rf 24-105 L lens, 26 megapixels, and once you see the advantages you might be converted. As one example, can you do this with a dslr? Look through the viewfinder while guiding the auto focus point by sliding your thumb around the led screen, drop the focus point on a subject and the camera continues to track the subject or even the eye of a person as you watch the focus point with confirmed focus (the litle focus square turns blue when in focus in servo mode).
