While on the Big Island, I was taking a picture of a bird on the ground and heard a loud cacophany overhead. I quickly turned and snapped some photos of a passing flock of birds not knowing what I was seeing. Unfortunately, the conditions were a bit poor as the light was low with an overcast sky but I found that what I had captured was a flock of Burrowing Parakeets. They are mainly found in Argentina but apparently these were introduced and this flock has made its home on the west coast of the Big Island.
All were taken with Nikon D850, Nikkor 200-500mm @f/8, ISO 1000 and 1/3200 or 1/4000.

Beautiful captures of beautiful birds. No apology needed for the poor light...that's just something we bird photographers have to live with at least twice a day, more on overcast days. I didn't know about these birds on the big island but now I do, so many thanks.
Nice photos, but it is unfortunate that another non-native species has been introduced to the Hawaiian islands!
Good reflexes and very nice result.

Most unfortunate. There is a huge flock of similar birds on Kauai that are like locusts, eating crops & creating havoc.
