Has there been a time where you just didn't have interest with photography? If happened to me in December. I had a heart attack in November and had quad bypass surgery in December. My life changed and had no interest in anything. I'm trying to get back into photography again.

After each of my children died I had lost any interest in photography for years. My best friend, a retired professional photographer just lost his wife of 53 years on January 2nd. They had been together for 60 years. We have discussed going out to take photographs and at the moment he hasn't much interest in doing anything. I am not saying I blame him at all. I was the same. But in a year or two I submit he will be back to taking photographs if only to feel closer to his wife as she accompanied him on most shoots.

Been in that place twice since I bought my D750 after losing my wife to cancer almost 5 years ago. I know how it feels to lose interest in everything, but I have bounced back each time. Don't give up, it will get better. Right now I'm hoping spring gets here quick, because that will probably give me some get up and go again.

It isn’t only after losing a spouse, child, or other close family member. The burdens of age can also be a factor. Consider a time when your tripod is as much for you as for the camera.

Well best wishes for good outcome. I don’t think time heals all. I think we do that ourselves. I did not lose my wife like others but we went through her being treated for cancer three years ago. I was terrified but so far so good. I lost interest in many things during her treatment. I tried like the devil to maintain a stiff upper lip and take care of business. The day her oncologist told me “It’s gone, we got it all” I just cracked up and could hardly stand as my head was spinning like a top. She said to me “You’ve been so stoic through all this I’ve been waiting for you to crack up.” The thing I did persist with was my gym/exercise routine. I believe that helped me maintain sanity and burn off anxiety. Some days I rode a spin bike like a demon and found it therapeutic. For the last three years she has been declared cancer free. Two to go. We were so fortunate it was found early. This fall will be our 50th anniversary and I am proud and excited. I sincerely hope you do well and get over the mental hurdles. Take care.

That's the best time to have an interest in something...anything. Lost my Wife to cancer in October to cancer. I'm more interested in photography now than I've ever been, the key is to keep your mind occupied with good thoughts.

I hear what your saying, ï had a triple bypass in November 2019 and lost interest also. Now after a year I'm getting interested again in photography. Hang in there and good luck with your recovery.

There were times when I just could not do anything (because of my illness), but I never lost interest in it!

Virtually the same sequence of events for me (attack, bypass and aorta valve replacement) occurred in 2016. I used the rehab time to finally watch some of the tutorials I have always meant to see. This helped keep me busy in an acceptable manner and helped my photography.

Back in the seventies, my two sons were born three years apart, one in 76 other in 79, I had a Canon TL, which I still have, that I took all photos of them, wife and surroundings we were in... My second son was born with a congenital heart defect, which the doctors said he would not live more than 9 months... Well after two open heart surgeries, we managed to keep him alive for 3 years... Taking pictures of him up until a week before his final surgery, which he passed after it, and then I gave up photography from that day on until 2013, when I bought my first Nikon D80 and subsequent D600 and Sony a6000... So, it took a long time to get back into it and am pleased to be back...
Thanks for sharing...
