As a fellow Pacific Northwesterner, I have to wonder why you chose to move 3,500 miles to southern FL. I've also lived and worked in places hotter (Arabia) and more humid (SE Asia) than FL. It's important to wear a broad-brimmed hat (ideally soaked in water) to keep the sun off your face and head. Loose, pure cotton clothing will help (skip the bra if you can), and keep drinking water while outdoors - and sweating profusely.

OR, come back to the Pacific Northwest, where the summer weather is the best in the country. Good luck.

From Tampa, I plan before my shoots start from clothing, always throw a pair of water shoes in,& bug repellent. I typically have rain protection for cameras & lenses as well as bag. Publix umbrella bags with painters tape for tripod legs ziplock bag for tripod head. Stay dry moisture packs in bag after a shoot, dew heaters for lens if condensation is around, ...the list goes on. With 2-3 of my cameras being placed remotely, I use a check list of ancillary equipment I might need. As I snot year round and at odd hours (2-3 am)... cloathing varies

Hello everyone,
So we have been having some cooler weather in the Tampa Bay Area. But the hot and humid months are not far off. If you are a photographer in Florida, any tips for staying cool? Even the early morning and late evening hours are hot and humid in mid summer. I find this cooler weather invigorating and it's fun to get out with my camera, but I am worried my motivation will wilt away when summer comes. I don't do hot and humid very well.

Most of us Natives buy clothing we started using for fishing , everyone makes them now columbia brand is the most expensive with Bimini Bay the cheapest they have a net back panel with a top panel that can popup with velcro for air movement .their pants also are a light weight material sometimes made of rip stop nylon the most expensive by Remington usually only in Camo . the pants by all 3 brands the legs zipper off to make short pants later in the day the material also is of a type when wet cool you down as the water evaporates , the best at doing this is rip stop nylon used on only the better Expensive brands like Remington . this time of year Walmart stocks them for summer The Bimini Bay brand..

Hello fellow mountain lover. I didn't chose to leave the beauty of the mountains and the wonderful summers. I had to move to take care of parents. Now kids and grandkids are here and my elderly dad is still here. We do what we must. Just wished I lived closer to the beach. Not so hot there. Never thought of soaking hat in water. Is yours a straw hat?

Thanks for the tips.

Never soak a straw hat in water! If you are near the beach you're probably in an evacuation zone in case of a hurricane. You'll also pay a higher homeowner's insurance closer to the beach.

No, it's an Aussie-style all cotton bush hat, wide brim all around, from which you could hang corks (to keep the flies away) if you wanted to go full Aussie. An old-fashioned fedora would also do the trick.

Well Dear;
I am 69 and Living in Michigan November to April can be miserable, Cold, sometimes VERY COLD, Snow, sometimes ALOT OF SNOW, Cloudy & Dreary, not very much Sunshine at all, So I do not Ski, Sledride, or Ice Skate, in fact getting the Car started and Warm is a Task. So Florida sounds better each Year I get Older, and Older. And my Photography is quite limited too.🙄🤔😊

Moved from New England.

Mark Twain stated NE has 2 seasons the 4th of July and winter!!

That's why i"m in Florida ----Rather sweat than shiver!!

Happiest day was when I sold lawnmower and snowblower!!

I moved to Tampa 17 years ago from NY and have not regretted it. The hot/humid weather lasts more than 6 months though! You will learn to deal with it the longer you are here. Buy clothing that is designed to be cooler and have a sun protection factor rating.

The good part is having flora and fauna all year round to photograph! Good luck!

We moved to Florida in 1998. It was the hottest summer on record. I gave up and convinced my husband to move back home near our families in Michigan. Haven’t regretted the move back. Now we just come to Florida for 1 month every winter!

To the OP: When we lived in Florida, my husband got a job working outside doing landscape & cleanup. He used to freeze water in gallon milk jugs to take with him. Within two hours, they were completely melted! You need to stay hydrated!!!! I worked in an air-conditioned hospital!

Morning and evening golden hour are the best time for photos and also the coolest (although mid-summer I don’t think it EVER cools off!!!).
