This is not good. I have been a Nikon user since I got my first DSLR. Was in the market for a new camera and after seeing Nikon decision, I bought a Canon 80D. At least I can take it to an authorized service center if needed and not have to pack it up and ship it to Canon. I live within driving distance of Midwest Camera Repair in wyandotte, Michigan. I have heard the stories that Nikon has extended turn arounds now, so I can imagine what is coming with only Nikon California and Nikon New York available. So long Nikon, hello Canon.

Nikon quit selling Nikon parts to independent service centers in 2012 and now they will not be selling anything to their authorized service centers. Can only image why they would make such a dumb move.

No, Nikon is NOT so good they do not have service issues like anyone else.

This is why I will never purchase another Nikon camera. It seems like Nikon is looking for ways to discourage doing business with them. It's a shame because I like my Nikon cameras and was planning on picking up a Nikon Full Frame. Oh well, my Canon full frames will do and my next camera will be another Canon.

Looks like Nikon is attempting to be a complete monopoly. Buy a Nikon, Marry Nikon. NO THANK YOU.

All companies who have tried this, AT&T, IBM, and Microsoft just to name a few, have all eventually had the FTC come down on them for monopolistic antitrust issues as well as class action lawsuits.

There will always be Nikon die hard's who will put up with Nikon's BS, not me. I too am done with Nikon.

If this post is true, Think of all the Professional Photographer who have and still do make their living with Nikon Cameras. Think of all the money they have spent over the years in buying the cameras and keeping them repaired. Think of all of the business that will be directly effected by this decision. This will also directly increase all of the business for the other camera manufacturer.

My thoughts exactly and Nikon is free to charge whatever they want for repairs. Zero competition.

Somewhat dramatic? Independent Nikon dealers have been purchasing bodies for years and stripping them of parts to service customer needs. I am fortunate in Los Angeles that Samys Camera has a top-notch service department when needed.

From Nikon users point of view it sounds counter productive, but maybe Nikon was getting too many complaints from the quality of repairs. They also have to take into consideration the bottom line. I'm not sure the monopoly argument will fly. But time will tell. At least Canon users are safe..for now.

The Nikon in house service centers are still operating. Your comments gives the very false impression that Nikon is shutting down all service and repair. That just isn't so. Nikon users can still have their equipment serviced. I have used the Melville NY facility since the beginning of forever. They are excellent.

Nikon is shutting down its authorized repair program. The only place to get a Nikon serviced after March 2020 is Nikon California or Nikon New York. I never said Nikon was shutting down service.

Nikon is shutting down its authorized repair program at the end of March, 2020. According to an email sent to authorized repair shops, and confirmed by Nikon Inc. (see update), Nikon users in the United States will soon have to rely exclusively on Nikon itself for any repairs that require special parts, tools, or training—that is: almost all repairs.

iFixit broke the news last night, after obtaining the official Nikon notification email that was sent to authorized repair shops. According to that email, access to parts, training, and other resources will be cut off on March 31st, 2020, leaving the 12 remaining Nikon authorized repair shops high and dry, and forcing Nikon users in the United States to rely on Nikon’s official repair centers in Los Angeles, CA and Melville, New York.
