When I was in a cold climate lately, a friend loaned me some gloves to use. They had fingers with no tips, and a mitten-type top that went over them. They worked really well. Unfortunately, I have no idea where they got them. I would google "fingerless gloves."

I found some at Cabelas, although it was a few years ago.

Bicyclists use gloves without the fingertips. I used them when I was out surveying in cold weather, carrying an aluminum surveying range pole. They didn't do a lot but they were better than nothing. If you're standing in one place, like a bird screen, get one of those gas heaters with the big reflector.

Average temps in March isn't all that bad. The mountain areas of course will be a little colder. If you're planning to do a lot of driving in the mountains, and there is a freak snowstorm, you'll be required to have FWD, AWD, or chains, as well as adequate tread. State patrol monitors this pretty closely. Just be prepared and enjoy your trip.

Check Cabela's or Sportsmans Warehouse in the hunting departments. Hunting clothing companies make gloves with removable finger tips. They also make similar mittens with removable finger pocket tips.

Or search Google or Amazon.com for "KastKing Mountain Mist Fishing Gloves – Cold Winter Weather Fishing Gloves – Fishing Gloves for Men and Women – Ideal as Ice Fishing, Photography, or Hunting Gloves"

How soon are you going? in few months it will be spring and much warmer. I find that leather covered mitts with liners are warm and comfortable. they are easy to take off or put on, take them off to take your picture then put them back on. As a former firefighter we once fought a house fire for most of the night actual temperature was -10F by morning our gloves were soaked from the water spray but my hands were still warm and functioning. Not so for those wearing finger gloves.

Try this company. They claim that their gloves are designed for photographers. The companies name is Vallerret with prices that range from about $34 to $120.
