My Menu Canon.

One thing I really hate is to repeatedly have to scan through the camera menu to make adjustments in how I shoot. Compared to some of my early digital P+S my canon DSLRs have a fairly navigable menu as I'm sure the Nikon's do. It still erks me to dig into the menu. One reason I love my 7D is many of the cameras working features are easily accessed by buttons near the shutter release and on the back panel or via the screen and joystick. There are still a few feature that require navigating through the menu to reach them. I've been slowly going through my menu offerings with manual in hand to acquaint myself with a good understanding of all the features and what results they bring from the first column on the right to the left. I finally reached the one on the far right of the screen marked with a star. This is the one the cursor always defaults to any never has what I'm looking for so I breeze right out of it. As it turns out it's reserved for user assigned often used menu functions and eliminates further digging. Well knuckle my forehead and say DUH! Since a great many on this forum never read their manual from end to end check out this useful feature.

I find it invaluable and use it on my 7D and my 5D Mark III.
That way both cameras have the same commonly used features right at hand.
Sometimes I forget which camera I am holding. A great feaure and time saver!!

When I made the switch from Olympus to Canon I downloaded the 5DMkII and 7D manuals onto my laptop as a .pdf and vowed to read them cover to cover. I did a credible job without flipping past too much and I think I got to know the cameras fairly well. I actually learned a few things in the most basic parts of the manual that surprised me.
